Today I went to immigration for get certificate of residence but they rejected me even I have all of documents and Non-B visa holder.

I’d like to make Thai motorbike and driver license. So as everyone know we need certificate of residence from local immigration.

I have Non-B visa but don’t have work permit yet. I applied work permit just 3 days ago. So I guess I’ll get 2-3 weeks later. I asked my landlord give me documents. I have Tabian Baan copy, Landlord ID card copy, Rental contract, Fill out TM30 form Thai and English from landloard, passport copy, Non-B visa copy, TM6 card copy, online register immigration.

Immigration said “If u don’t have work permit we cannot give u Certificate of Residence”. I said “I just want make Thai driver license. I have all of correct documents. How people with Non-O or Retirement or ED or Tourist visa can do driver license they also don’t have work permit.” She said “Can I call ur office.” Then they call talk in Thai etc. (I feel like she wanna be sure I’m working here.)

Still keep talking cannot cannot etc.

Finally she said “Ur country special country. Turkey in the list. U have to wait ur work permit.”

I’m in Thailand for 3 years. First time like this..

Edit: I just talked my office immmigration asked them “What he do after work, is he have any criminal record in Thailand etc.”

and immigration said “even he have work permit can’t make Thai driver license. Because he is Turkish.”

It goes back to the Erawan bombings in 2015.

Racist !!! That's ridiculous !!

The officials have rules/laws that they use. The laws are established according to the relationship they have to a specific country. The relationship Thai-Japan (and to its citizens) is not the same like Thai-Zimbabwe (and to its citizens) ..... and of course one major factor in the relationship equation is the country's interests !!!!

If the lady said and was sure about that, that means that's the rule/guide line she should apply !!!

You can read in this forum about people who get immigration refusal to enter the country at BKK airport. They are farangs, Indians and other nationalities.

at the same time they welcome others from those same countries !!!

Thailand officials are far far from being racists, as it's a touristic country !!!

Residence certificate is a right that anyone with the right documents and under the right/legit circumstances can get !!!!

My Pakistani friend was able to get Thai driving license easily and had stayed Thailand for first time just for 2 months. on ED visa

it really depends on that particular officer . some are strict some let not . in these cases luck is really need of the hour
