Footage from the Bang Na area south east of Bangkok showed two truck drivers arguing after a collision between their 18 wheel trailers.

But despite one driver having a long sword it was all settled amicably with wais at the police station.

Pol Capt Bunlai Chaiyathip of the Bang Na police told Daily News that the fight was between Chawarot Rakdontree, 48 and Anon Na Wichien, 37.

Chawarot - the man with the sword - said that Anon went into him.

So he chased him and a further collision followed near KM 3 on Theparat Road on Saturday.

Capt Bunlai said that the damage was settled with insurance and wais all round.

As regards the assault neither man was seriously hurt. Police would wait to see if injuries were caused in the accident or by a knife before possibly taking further action.

But they said it wasn't serious, reported Daily News.

They can't be bothered. The police may have had a percentage of the fines (unreceipted or otherwise) and told them to wai each other for the cameras. Job done.

The police here need to raise revenue to support the lifestyles of their officers. They can't be wasting time on silly squabbles (armed or otherwise) between truck drivers. No significant money in it.

The police are not interested in social change, they are interested in how much cash they can rake in this week. If they don't bring in enough, their senior officers, wives and mia nois will be very unhappy and make their lives hell.

Pathetic.....

Easiest way to win a  fight here, stamp as hard ad you can on their feet, they never have any shoes on, just break the  toes and watch em  hobble away.

Thank fully  it was all just a bit of "high spirits" eh!!

The mentality will change if punishment is handed out, I am sure of it. The problem is that often punishment is not handed out and if you accept violence like this the next step.. shooting someone is easier too. So if you come down hard on this it will influence other crimes too. You cant eradicate crime but you can make an impact. Now its just totally wrong.

It´s still lays all in the mentality of people. They not have the mentallity to do anything in the same way regulary. How in the wide world can you ever believe they would be able to work together with the same line regerding the delivery of punishments? Mentality, my dear Watson.

What does it take to change the essence of a people, what does it really take?

The Japanese are short of ninjas and are now auditioning on the streets of Bangkok ?

You're not far off. Not long ago there was a story about Japan not being able to fill positions for ninja even with an $80,000/year contract.

"They can't be bothered. The police may have had a percentage of the fines "

A  friend in Pattaya tried to break-up a fight between two drunk foreigners. One threw a punch at him, missed and decked my friends wife to the floor causing big damage to her teeth and jaw. Cops made the guy pay for medical/dental but when the wife wantd the guy charged the cop in charge said there was no crime report. It must have cost the drunk a lot to pay them off!!
