Woman found dead in rented Samut Prakan room, surrounded by her plants

A 45-year-old woman was found dead on Monday morning in her rented room in Samut Prakan's Bang Sao Thong district, police said.

Following a report of what seemed like the strong smell of a decomposed body coming from a third-floor room in Soi Wat Sri Wareenoi in Tambon Sisa Jorakhe Yai at 9.30am, Pol Captain Theeradech Udonteerasakul of the local precinct went to inspect the scene along with rescue workers.

They found the decomposed body of tenant Sawai Sornsri, 45, from Si Sa Ket in the room.

She had grown many plants besides the bed, and it was suspected that she had died at least three days before the discovery of the body.

No wounds were found on her body, which was then sent to hospital for autopsy to determine the cause of death, Theeradech said.

Neighbours said the woman had kept to herself and was keen on growing plants in her room, despite people having warned her against growing plants in a poorly ventilated room such as hers.

Police suspect that she may have died due to a combination of the plants producing a large amount of carbon dioxide and the fact that she had apparently been a regular drinker, which would increase the risk of acute heart attack, he added.

  • but... don't plants take CO2 from the air, and output Oxygen???     maybe they were Triffids...

  • Wow, I have never heard of plants poisoning a person with carbon dioxide!  Surely this is an urban myth?

Plants do produce CO2 when not in photosynthesis, but in extremely small amounts, so the official theory above makes as much sense as the "no mafia in Pattaya" declaration.

Arrest the plants. They are the culprits.

The CO2 must have triggered an adverse reaction when combined with Lao Khao, there is no other explanation.

It happens all over the country. But now we know - the plants are to blame.

Unless the room was sealed airtight, the CO2 angle from the Nation is completely bogus.

Net CO2 output during the night time due to respiration.

oh dear!

astronauts have been getting this wrong about plants and CO2 replacement... all that time!

Don't really understand your post.

Here is some biology for 12-year-olds. Enjoy.

yeah okay see the data there.

Didn't realise it was 'that' black and white; always thought the scales remained more in favour of O2 out even when not in light

Guess the curtains were totally drawn closed?

The police haven't yet realised all the plants were not real, but plastic.

Many years ago in UK at least they would remove flowers from patients bedside tables in hospitals overnight. An OTT reaction, I think anyway, because of this.

I guess she didn't study Biology too much, RIP

You would think a reasonable journalist would at least do a little research.....but of course not here in Thailand....just report the plants emitted CO2 which killed her!

I live in the jungle, best move to a city and get some fresh air then.

Yep I go with killed by a Triffid crept in , crept out . The plants were just plants put there by the perp. Triffids to take away the truth.

An Autopsy might be a good idea.

After reading this and some of the BS that floats around in these news reports I would suggest that Thailand is finally ready to increase the national IQ by watching a few series of "Ripleys Believe it or Not"

Call the PLANT POLICE. Were there vines wrapped around her throat? Whoa, new Thai danger.
