PM says science important to national development

NONTABURI, 17th August 2018 (NNT)-Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has urged children to be more interested in science as it is important to the development of the country. 

Speaking during the opening ceremony of the 2018 National Science and Technology Fair, Gen Prayut said science is part of everyday life and that applied science, through research and development, lays a foundation for the country to grow economically. 

The premier added that science also inspires people to develop ideas and innovations that could be beneficial to the country. To make his statement clearer, he compared traffic management to a science in which the government is trying to improve the situation and solve traffic problems. 

Gen Prayut is also set to address the importance of science during his weekly public address tonight along with the need to continue His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s royal projects in order to achieve sustainable national development goals. 

The Prime Minister later visited various exhibitions to learn more about waste management and food technology. The most popular exhibition among visitors is the one about the rescue of the Wild Boar football team at Tham Luang cave. 

Visitors get to learn what it is like to be trapped inside a cave at 16 degrees Celsius and how to survive the ordeal. The 2018 National Science and Technology Fair is taking place now until August 26th at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani.

I was told that years ago that a system was installed to help ease Bangkok traffic congestion, but the BiB saw it as a threat and somehow was able to defeat the system.   Not sure if it was true, but seeing police every evening yelling into radios always struck me as an overly simplistic approach to a very difficult problem.

I reckon you're thinking of the fully automated traffic lights. The head honcho forced everyone to use manual instead as the traffic situation in BKK was "unique" and automated traffic lights couldn't accommodate for different volumes of vehicles from different directions.

 

I swear the idiot thought that the lights just split time equally between roads and that that couldn't be adjusted.

Just like with English and other core subjects, they all take a back seat to culture and tradition subjects, and learning how to genuflect and follow leaders blindly.

 

Such a mindset gives children answers that mustn’t be questioned, where as science gives us questions that must be answered.

 

Science is important.

 

Democracy, oh well, never mind.

 

Moving on quickly.

Education is the most important to national development. That and carnal desire by young ones to produce more billy lids. (sorry couldn't help myself)

 

Education also develops democratic process, (it makes people think, ask more questions and become vocal about rights) something that would no go well with the current regime.

And if he wishes to advance knowledge of the " science '' of traffic managment then look no further than some European cities who have made a pretty good job of controlling traffic in city centres .. Though that would involve possibly having to take someone else's advice which is not really the Thai way is it .?

Science is not important, its much easier to just copy, what others have worked hard to develop.

The system that was installed was suppose to be very sophisticated, but according to lore, the BiB saw it as a threat. 

did he check this  all out first with the  official govt soothsayer/shamen/fortune  teller/ monk-eys  ?

It would help to employ qualified scientists to start with, and not these quacks certifying glyphosate and paraquat as not harmful, or those 'experts by nepotism' in charge of water irrigation, city planning, waste management, etc. etc.

Absolutely agree with him on this....just a shame there's very little evidence of quality science research and development ever becoming available here....and it's no good telling kids...you need quality academics.

General Obvious is at it again...

Science is very important to advancement just as the ability to think logically about a problem and to be able to disagree with other peoples ideas. When I was at university we regularly argued with the lecturer on a whole range of subjects. From what I have seen and heard, in Thailand students are not allowed to disagree with the teacher / lecturer. This attitude is detrimental to learning. Much of science when invention and development is concerned does not have text book answers. Students have to learn to thtink logically about problems in order to resolve them.

Sadly this does not seem to be a concept that is either grasped or understood in the current education system

However, no Biology classes for students as that may teach them about sexual reproduction which is now banned indefinitely for all student in Thailand at all times forever.

P's entourage kept an eye out for any free think agitators in the audience .. Though the girl beneath his elbow looks like she's about to blow him a raspberry .. which may be even worse ..

Considering that uni educated , mba holder working as loans officer at krungsi bank thinks yamaha and Honda are Thai brands, there is a long way to go to comprehend what science is?

Always the country and never the world or humanity-more proof of what ails the country.  If they are really good at something, they will probably leave Thailand.  There is an intellectual vacuum.
