Pattaya Beach is undergoing reconstruction to return the severely eroded beach to its former beauty and attract more tourists.

it has never been a real beach in Pattaya and therefore it has never been a beautiful beach just a small fishing village

The project driver is researcher Thanawat Jarupongsakul from Chulalongkorn University’s Department of Geology. The sustainability of the newly created beach is an issue, he conceded in an interview yesterday with The Nation, as are the financial costs and environmental impacts of the project. Still, Pattaya Beach is being reconstructed in a way that avoids major impacts to the marine environment, Thanawat said, adding the project will create far more financial benefits from tourism than will be spent on the effort.

bla bla bla..Just get 3 drunk falangs off a soi 6 bar who know nothing about sand or geology, I bet you they will come up with a better strategy than those idiots to fight the erosion!

this is bull$hi#!

Thanawat said “I admit that this project is not totally free from environmental impacts and is more expensive than other coastal erosion prevention techniques,” he said, “but this method will provide a larger profit than what we have invested. I expect that Pattaya Beach’s beautification will boost the tourism business, bring 1.7 million more tourists to Pattaya and generate many jobs and incomes for the local people.”

Just another scam to make some officials more money.

During the reconstruction phase itself, a sediment curtain will be placed in the sea to prevent environmental impacts to the marine ecosystem.

Marine ecosystem!! What ecosystem? Have they not seen the amount of dead fish washed up on the beaches because of what they dump into the sea. Last I heard was that the sea here was 70% yes 70% over the safe limit.

uhmmm....with their previous track record on building the "state of art marina",I am afraid the breakwater will be gone before the sand!

Cosmetic surgery. Have they studied WHY the sand is eroding away so fast? Presumably it didn't do so years ago. Not familiar with Pattaya, but dams are responsible for a lot of beach erosion, as the sand transported down rivers gets trapped behind the dam and doesn't end up washing out to sea (where tides will return some of it to beaches). Fix the problem, THEN repair the beach. Otherwise it will just happen again.

had those bags been ''biodegradable'' and dissolve over time, this may have been a good idea..but after our first flood the top 12 inch layer of sand covering the bags may wash away leaving an uglier mess ( a sand bag beach),and almost impossible to redo...we will see

Only a few months and its getting ugly

the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different out come.

unless you own the company that supplies the sand.

yeah but in Thailand the definition of lucrative is to do the same money skimming mega project time and again...

The fact they are expecting to lose 10m in the first year sounds like they are at least being realistic.  So they are basically conceding that after 3 years it will be right back to where it was when they started.  Doesn't sound like much of a return on the investment.

It looks nice in the areas they have finished.  So may as well enjoy it for now.

What about the raw sewage just off the beach!!  Why worry about the sand when the sea is so toxic?

Simply pave over it and build a nice, wide promenade for the whores and ladyboys to operate from!

Because you cannot see it and only smell it when it hasn't rained in awhile.  So no need.  It's all about appearances.

Currents change in the years, so this can happen, even in the past it was such a nice beach, that's no guaranty for the future.

Don't forget to make breakwaters otherwise the sand will be gone in no time and if your engineers don't know what they are then they can go to University again. In "my world" every child learned about it in school and what the use of it is. (The Netherlands)

They don't have Longshore Drift in Thailand. Apparently. So no need for Groynes.
