As the wife and I have some cash available we thought we'd try our hands at becoming wholesalers of corn and rice. Both crops are grown extensively where the wife hails from and getting a plot of land and setting up the required infrastructure (the storage silos/barns, weight scales etc) should be straight forward.

Has anyone on TVF done this?

Member Wayned is involved in a Co-op.

He might be able to give some advice.

Huge commitment required to make it work with a rice and corn enterprise.

A neighbour started up and stopped after a few years. My wife looked at the idea and decided it involves, as stated above, a LOT of investment. I would get fire insurance and get friendly with the friendly village mafia...

Another neighbour takes about a hundred tons a year, has an old fashioned rice mill and is doing OK but he rears pigs and has other sources of income.
