Army chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart, who will retire at the end of September, on Thursday morning racked up scores of 100 percent on the physical fitness test for young troops.

Chalermchai and Deputy Army Commander-in-Chief General Sasin Thongphakdee joined troops of all levels at the Army headquarters to take the physical fitness test.

Chalermchai managed to do 50 push-ups and 60 sit-ups and then finished a two-kilometre run in 10:39 minutes.

Chalermchai said the test was the last one for his military career.

He added that he wanted to see Army personnel in good health so he had ordered four physical tests a year as part of the “Smart Man Smart Soldier” project.

Chalermchai said the latest test of over 300 battalion commanders found that all of them achieved scores of 100 per cent, which was a good statistic for the Army.

After his mandatory retirement at the age of 60, he will continue to run on a treadmill, swim and play football to remain physically fit, because he believes that good physical health will give him good mental health as well, the Army chief concluded.

Wonder what would be Prawit's score?

Everyone achieving 100%, pretty impressive have to say. No wonder these chaps will end up winning big time in the next "election" (they don't call it the "General election" for nothing!). Nothing more important for Thailand than to have a leader who can do a proper number of push ups and sit ups all the while wearing a crapload of golden medals and trinkets (and some wrist candy of course).

Sounds like a good shoe in for the next leader of …………………………………?

Don't they usually do a coup d'etat a few months prior to their retirement?

Pity for this guy that the previous one is still ongoing.

Video or it didnt happen.

That's a better standard than the basic British army fitness standards these days! Good on him.

Sit-ups:

  • Everyone must be able to perform 50 in two minutes

Press-ups:

  • Males 44 in two minutes
  • Females: 21 in two minutes

1.5 mile run:

  • Males 10 min 30 sec
  • Females 12 min 45 sec

These timings are for recruits and get higher with age.

Good on him, many people in his position of power would NOT be able to do the test.

If Chalerchai is looking for a project maybe he can devise a fitness plan for the "Rolly Poly Fatties "of the Thai Police. There is no love lost between the Army and The police so he might enjoy it.

Prawit's results will be made public after resolved dispute over the time keeping device:

That description sounds like an advert for lingerie.

Wow 60 years old and he looks good, tough and ready for battle. I don't imagine the other battalion commanders that scored 100 all did it on the scale for young troops like he did. Very well done indeed.

Fit for holding an unelected politician's position in a next future! There will be plenty of positions available.

Luckily Prayut has his weekly aerobics class at government house......haven't seen that lately?

I rather like older men- good to see the General keeping fit and more importantly firm.

A politician in the making?

How lovely, like a fresh fish in a wet market.

You don't need to be fit and trim to stage a coup. Just ask Prawit.

Of course they did..

Good on him to set an example from the top.  That presumes this is true, of course, as well as the onslaught of other 100% scores among the lemmings.
