My fiancee is attending a school in Surin to learn how to speak english better but because of her lack of speaking english all she can say it that the school is call "Dasat" or that is how it sounds. Has anyone from Surin ever heard of such a school or would they know of a place either online or anywhere that would show the schools available to Thais in Surin? When I prompted her further, she just said "I show you when you come in April". Does anyone know what these schools charge too to teach the students. I also know that she goes to school 4 days a week from 9-4 daily.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Be wary of the 'English' schools here. A friend of ours sent her son, and after six months pulled him out because he could only say about three words in English. OK, it's probably because the son was lazy, but it would also seem that no commitment was shown by the teacher. There are a number of English schools in Surin, but as with other great Thai businesses, they come and go like tourists. There was a private school over the road from us, but they pursued other avenues and have now closed. Fun English was another, but as we banned the head teacher for being drunk and abusive every time he came into our place, I wouldn't recommend that even if it was still going. I will endeavour to find out exactly, where, and by what name the English schools here operate under, and will publish a list with points on my web site.

That's what I was thinking too.....that the schools come and go like the weather. My fiancee though she does speak excellent Thai.....she should, she's born and bred Thai but english, she has tourist speaking skills and I would hate to think she's being taken advantage of. Not much I can do being 12,000 miles away but I can say who gets paid and who doesn't. hel_l I'll teach her and she'll probably get more out of it. I figure if they want to get paid, they'll email me. I suspected to that there were many many schools in Surin. I haven't been to Surin yet, but from what I had read about it, it was a fairly sizable city like Pattaya or similar like city. Thanks for the reply too...
