2 year Thai DL changing early to 5 year I say best ask at your nearest DLT obviously depends how long you've had it.

In UK you can only drive on a 5 year Thai DL no IDP required.

I take it you have no German DL and you need a IDP in Germany with a Thai DL.

Thailand only issues 1949 IDPs and Germany didn't sign the 1949 convention, so even if you could get an IDP in Thailand, you could not use it to drive in Germany

But according to this official website you don't need an IDP, all you would need is a translation of the driving license to German

German: https://www.bmvi.de/SharedDocs/DE/Artikel/StV/gueltigkeit-auslaendischer-fahrerlaubnisse-in-deutschland.html

English: https://www.bmvi.de/SharedDocs/EN/Articles/StV/validity-foreign-driving-licences-in-germany.html?nn=12830

Now we only have to figure out if the Thai temporary license + translation would be valid, or only the 5 year license + translation

On this website they write "A foreign driving licence does not entitle you to drive or ride a motor vehicle in the Federal Republic of Germany if it is a learner licence or any other provisional licence; " but the Thai 2 years license is imho neither a learner nor a provisional license, it's simply a license which is only for two years, so not really clear.

How I understand it, they are both "temporary". First one for 2 years, next for 5 years.

Yes, but the 2 year license has the word "temporary" written on it, the 5 year one doesn't

1) the rule that I know and is written on DLT site (in Thai only) says 3 months in advance

2) Thai IDP is issued based on 5yr normal license only.

As far as I remember it's not allowed to drive abroad with a temporary (one of the documented restrictions).
