Newly-appointed Army chief Gen Apirach Kongsompong

His Majesty the King has approved the annual military reshuffle list that saw all the top military posts of Army chief, Navy chief, Air Force chief, supreme commander and defence permanent secretary appointed.

The approved list of the reshuffle of 935 generals was published in the Royal Gazette Saturday and the appointments will take effect on October 1.

Key reshuffles included the promotion of Assistant Army chief Gen Apirach Kongsompong to the post of Army commander-in-chief, replacing Gen Chalermchai Sittisart, who retires at the end of September.

Deputy Navy chief Admiral Luechai Ruddit was appointed as the the new Navy commander-in-chief and Royal Thai Air Force assistant commander-in-chief ACM Chaiyapruk Didyasarin became the new Air Force chief.

Joint Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Gen Pornpipat Benyasri became the supreme commander while Defence Ministry's deputy permanent secretary Gen Nat Intharacharoen was promoted to the post of permanent secretary.

"...The approved list of the reshuffle of 935 generals..."

935 generals? What the hell does the Thai military need with 935 generals? By contrast, the US military has;

"The U.S. law explicitly limits the total number of general officers who may be on active duty. The total of active duty general officers is capped at 231 for the Army, 62 for the Marine Corps, and 198 for the Air Force."

I guess that the difference is that US Generals have a useful military function while Thai Generals look pretty.

As the British phrase so aptly puts it, this is taking the ****.

Probably need about a 1000 to get 150 good ones.

The annual changing of the guard would only be done to ensure they all have their turn at getting their snouts into the deepest part of the retirement benefit trough.

Even Gomer Pyle would make General if he was in the Thai military.

It will be for the nation because with promotion comes greater enrichment traditionally.   Plus no doubt entitlement to a larger number of poor serfs conscripts to do the cleaning in all of their homes and close relatives for free

This calls to mind an old television game show where the contestants were given ‘x’ amount of time to run through a supermarket throwing things into a shopping cart. When time ran out the contestant to ring up the highest dollar value of merchandise won. The only objective being to amass maximum loads of swag as quickly as possible, and to get it done before time ran out. The original contestants didn't have glow-in-the-dark uniforms, but aside from this, the similarity here is uncanny.

Excellent post of yours except in that game it was only the supermarkets' goods they could grab,  not the cash registers as is the case here.

Not a bad looking uniform.

Better than this pack of "idiots". Hope they haven't got an over abundance of Generals!

That's an outrageous statement which should be rejected out of hand. You are overlooking the Great Thai Laotian Border War of 1987/8 under the inspired leadership of General "Big Jiew" Yongchaiyudh.

Shame the general public show such acquiescence.

Running a country that reminds me of the show,  "It's a Knockout "

Doesn't everyone love a bright, shiny general? There's the ever present parachute insignia, actually dominating other medals. Bet the ceremony and other costs for these promotions cost 1% of GDP,  which could fund a national pension.

The faces of the next Government after Prayuth has had his fill?

Always wonder about people who laugh so heartily at their own alleged witticisms.

I suppose at least they know 1 person finds them funny

You can spout all the s+++e you like, every person in Thailand knows that they pay serious money to get their senior positions.

Please dont try insulting me, saying i dont know what i am talking about, because it happened to my wife, pay 500.000 baht or you dont get the promotion, now members who have been on here for more than 5 years know what we did about that, but i am not going to lower myself by explaining it to you.

And to show the world that the military of LOS stands far above any other military, their generals will now be awarded a sixth and seventh star to their ranks.and all bus conductors will be limited to a major's rank of insignia.

As opposed to no one finding them funny.

nine hundred and thirty five generals on the wall, nine hundred thirty five generals on the wall, if one of those generals decided to fall, there still would be 935 generals on the wall,
