How do I prove adequate funds for tourist visa?

Featured Replies

I have a Thai bank account, but I assume it's a bad idea to use a statement from a Thai bank as proof of funds for a tourist visa?

Can I just show them that I have the required amount in cash?

Also, on the application form, what do I use as "Date of previous visit to Thailand"?

The last date I left Thailand, or the date I entered? I think I have used the date of entry in the past without being questioned about it, but that may not be correct.

which embassy?

There is nothing wrong with using a Thai bank account for financial proof. Many people do it.

Date of entry is what it should be.

Thanks, ubonjoe!

Orchis, it's the one in Phnom Penh.

I wouldn’t use a Thai bank when applying for a ‘Tourist’ visa, but many do and the consulates seem to accept them.

They won’t accept cash.

Put the last entry date.

Obviously, pay close attention to Ubonjoe's reply, but, FYI only, this is what I put on my last application to the London Embassy.

London does not require financial details for SETV so I cannot comment on that part of your question.

For the previous years, I did similar and it's never been questioned - for Phnom Penh, YMMV.

Put the last entry date.

Have your Bank pass book up dated  the day of the day before leaving. I get a letter from the Bank starting the amount . Also on the letter have them write "money can not be taken out of the account outside Thailand.

I was in Malaysia for about 4 weeks . The immigration officer requested

my pass book be updated as I had seen in Malaysia 4 weeks ,thinking I could have withdraw the money. So I now have the above in Thai on the letter. He latter in Bkk Bank is 100Baht

The Consulates seem to change their requirements with their socks, much like immigration do!

One time in Penang they accepted my foreign bank accounts as financial proof, 3 months later they didn't want to know and insisted I show them proof of funds in a Thai account (both times for a non-O retirement).

One time in HCMC they accepted cash when applying for a tourist visa as my bank book update was out of date.
