One tenth of young Net surfers have casual sex with strangers: survey

More youngsters surfed the Internet for pornographic materials, chatting with strangers mainly about sex and ending up having casual sex with them, a new survey has found.

The latest poll by the Abac Poll Research Centre showed well over six in ten of the about 1,300 respondents to the poll conceded they clicked to the websites providing pornographic materials such sex video clips and pictures and web cam.

The percentage of respondents visiting pornographic websites rose to 62.6 per cent from 61.6 per cent in the previous survey last year, said Noppadon Kannika, the director of the Abac centre.

The increase was regarded as significant and provided a projection of continuous rise in the further, said Sunit Shrestha, who is the manager of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation's ICT Plan for Health Promotion Programme.

Still, the new poll also found that about one in ten of the young net surfers conceded to have sex with strangers and most of them were those who began with chatting with strangers about sex and led to a date and sex.

I do not agree with this survey, why.

First of all those people admitting having sex with others people the meet in for example chat rooms

are not strangers. You have plenty of time to get to know eachother before deciding you wanna give it a try.

In fact people tend to reveal much more details about their sexual preferences as the net is quite anonymous.

Therefore the statement that young net surfers have casual sex with 'strangers' is misleading.

How many of those young net surfers have 'uncasual' sex with other people they meet through the net

is a far more interesting question.

But what is 'casual' sex and what is 'uncasual' sex?

That is hard to believe.

I'm curious as to where in Thailand they polled.

Now i am very curious??

Which percentage are you in

I'm 40 :o If you think that includes me in the "youngster" category, then I think you are the smartest poster on Thai Visa :D

Anyway....I just find it unlikely these statistics would have any validity outside of Bangkok or other large cities.

IF I do have sex, it is always casual.... just ask my wife!

It goes something like this... Do you want to have sex? Not really, but if you do.... go ahead, I'll just sleep through it. So I'd say sex (what little there is) is pretty casual for me, and our first corespondence ever was over the net....

So maybe there is something to this survey.

Even in a perfect statistical world of perfect samples of 1,300 people, how significant is a rise from 61.6% to 62.6%? Besides, I think it was Bill Clinton who asked the interrogator to define "sex" as well as "is."

How old were these people they polled?

PB, that is the critical question and one that remains unanswered. This was, as usual, a very poorly written newspaper article. The writer should have ellicited greater details about the poll...how was it conducted; what was the targeted age-group; how great was the difference between other people of the same age group that don't go online very often; and what is the definition of "casual sex"?

There is only one solution the Thai "government" has to do.

SHUT DOWN THE INTERNET IN THAILAND

so that Thai youth can stay pure and innocent.

Internet...bad bad bad

Taksin...bad bad bad

Singapore...bad bad bad

I do so agree.

The internet is a wicked foreign devil invention and is responsible for sex occuring the the East.

Much better to go back in time 100 years, to a time of no sex, a tiime when babies arrived in baskets carried by storks, a time when all Thailand lived in a sublime state of well being.

That is a good question. Do not believe any Abac or Dusit Polls. They are a fraud. they will :

a. never publish the exact question which they have asked

b. They poll in general just in a handful pof provinces around Bangkok and thuss are not representative for Thailand

c. They never publish the margin of error.

These kinds of poll agencies are a shame for the scientific community.

I wonder what percent of OLDER internet users have casual sex with strangers? I say, hurrah for sex!

:o

I was going to ask a question like that but figured

I'd just get flamed as a perv.

"Casual sex with strangers" sounds wierd , I mean

it conjures up images I wish it didn't conjure up.

A quote from "The Russia House" where Barley

Blair , under interrogation , is asked if he was

ever intimate with a certain lady"

"We had sex , but we were never intimate".
