We should be thanking someone that your not (a lawyer) even though you are correct in pointing out that pedo and paedophile are not the same word, pedantic in this case.

However  it is very clear by inference that the use of pedo by Musk clearly meant paedophile when he referred to Unsworth, meaning in this case pedo and paedophile can be and are interchangeable to convey the same meaning.

I'm sorry but I think you have this completely reversed. I can't imagine that any competent lawyer would or could plausibly try to argue that the abbreviation (not the prefix) 'pedo' means anything other than 'pedophile,' when given a situation in which his client has used it to refer to a plaintiff who the same client subsequently refers to as a child rapist and someone who has married a 12 year-old girl.

 

Now, if the lawsuit relied solely on the use of the word 'pedo' in total isolation with no other context or corroborating evidence to indicate what the abbreviation might reasonably be taken to mean, you might have a point. But that isn't the case here.
