Live in Korat...but would meet them in Bangkok. Would be nice to do Bkk and somewhere nearby. Have done Kwai, Cha Am/Hua Hin, Prachuap, Ayuthaya many times ... and don't like Pattaya

From that list sounds like you need possibly Chiang Mai direction or North East up to Udon or Khon Kaen areas although none are "nearby" but a short hop on a plane or on a train for something different.

If you are then considering a flight you can hop down to Samui or Krabi and even Phuket for a few days.

Thanks for the advice about the NE & C Mai. Trouble is I've been here 10 yrs plus and have been to most places I want to go to. And my friends have been to most of them too. My favourite is Prachuap town nice promenade, easy going laid back bars/cafes relatively unspoilt town but as I have said before have been there many times. I guess I'm trying to find something similar .....

Definitely i would avoid islands and beaches, it can be very boring if you're not lucky with the weather.

Rubbish!

 Rubbish ?

Fair enough if you think so.

But, here where i live the weather is completely unpredictable.

The last 3 days the weather is great, but prior didn't see the sun for 5 days, with all the varieties of rain you can imagine.

The good thing is there is barely some tourist around, so at least it's quiet.

Still, if i was on a short holiday in the rainy season, i would rather enjoy a city like Bangkok, which has all the attractions that people can ask for.

Plus, Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi are easy and interesting towns nearby, which you can go and back in the same day.

there are a number of small places between Prachuap and Hua Hin, laid back and OK

do the coastal strip from Trat down to Cambodia

Ayuthaya? Ampawa?

Plenty of things to see/do in BKK and nearby;

Koh Kred

Wat Hua Krabue in SW BKK for a fantastic collection of vintage cars

Boat trips here and there

the art gallery across the street from MBK, interesting place

Ancient Siam/Village in Samut Prakan

The Artists House

mmm

Old Bangkok (the Rattanakosin island) might be a good idea. The area near the Chanasokran temple (not Khao San Road, rather the area around Soi Rambuttri) Adjacent to Phra Athrit Road and the boat pier at the Chao Praya River - actually the easiest way to get around in Bangkok.

I don't know Korat. But the yearly Elephant Roundup in Surin is certainly worth going there. And, of course, all those orchid lakes in the Issan.

I would stick with Prachuap, good beach at Ao Manao, also a museum that celebrates the last time Thais fought to defend their country, if you can find it, Good outdoor eating places on the left past the pier and sensibly priced hotels, Fairly quiet but enough to make it interesting  Big Market at the nearby Burmese border, What's not to like ?

Well it seems you are all bored with Thailand having done everything.

BUt if you go to Chiang Mai, you could go fishing.

There is a pond over there with asian carps. A German guy owning the pond(?) pick you up at hotel and brings you, A thai guide helps you with the fishing, you dont even have to put on the bait or hook up the carp (for a real fisherman maybe boring) but if the carp is hooked up, you can try to reel it in. THose fish fight real good and after a day, you will feel your arms. Guess they are really hungry, as the guide throws in and almost instantly hooks up the carp.

I wouldnt bother about fancy clothes or shoes, just some old stuff will do.IMG_1138.thumb.JPG.e27f3a12b8a0b82057b92e124af0ecf5.JPG

Go bar hopping on Nana - Soi 4. Go to the Colombian Restaurant near Suk Soi 29. Go to MBC. Go to the main Wats near the River. Go on a river trip on public transport. Go on a canal trip, public transport to the Museum on Asoke and Jim Thompson's Silk House. Go to the 50th Floor restaurant near Paragon. Eat shark fin soup at the Paragon food court. Hire some beautiful escorts.  Visit the excellent massage parlours on soi 24/1. Go for a bar crawl on soi 33. Check out the museums and art galleries. Go shooting etc etc. Watch Thai Kick Boxing.

What rubbish!?

We are in the monsoon season and sitting under the roof is not everyone's favorite.

A mate was in Phuket some years ago. 21 days, 20 days of rain.

Ha ha. Use a weather app and move to the area where its not raining!

Good idea if you are flexible for a short term plan.

Samui seems still to be dry currently(?).
