May want to focus on the "state-sponsored" bit. People from a country engaging in such is one thing, active government support is another.

Yeah, it was, indeed the weekly (or daily, even) dose of Trump buffoonery. Everyone (other than ardent Trump supporters) had a good laugh, and rightly so.

 

But here's the thing - that laughter? It isn't quite the answer to dealing with Trump as another poster suggested. Sure - they laughed, many of us did too. I did as well. And...? Nothing. Trump's fragile ego might be have been hurt, but in terms of such debacles registering or having a constructive/positive effect on his actions and views? Not so much.

 

No actual coordinated and effective international "resistance", nor a country able to take on the US by itself (including China). And like it or not, Trump now governs the US.

 

So yeah, a funny moment and all that. Yet another opportunity to bash Trump (and he fully deserves it, no mistake). But overall, it rings more of desperation, and as such, hollow.

 

Edit:

Maybe adding a quote (attributed to Caligula, although I think it was borrowed from a play?) would help  - Let them hate me, so that they will but fear me. Doesn't quite fit, Trump's ego and need for adulation being what they are. But in the context of international relations, this is basically what it comes down to.

It was a "pretty interesting" press conference. Wish I could watch the excitement on Thursday but I can't. I see a withdrawal coming! Either another loss for Trump or an elected judge with an iron weight around his neck.

Trump the conman is already hedging his bets.  He says the mid terms are a referendum on the House and Senate leaders.  So he'll blame Ryan and McConnell if they lose.  But if they retain the majorities, you can bet your ass that Trump will take credit.  And his idiot supporters will believe him.

Hate to break it to you but those days are over.  US wants to close the bases in Europe/Japan/Korea and elsewhere but these countries keep resisting.  So the so called US "allies" want us to leave but moan that we can't leave.
