Bangkok Metropolitan Administration governor Aswin Kwanmuang on Wednesday inspected the long-delayed vehicle tunnel project on Pattanakarn Road.

After being assured that the Pattanakarn-Ramkhamhaeng-Thaworntrat project would be completed by its latest extended deadline of February next year, Aswin told the contractor to temporarily provide more space for traffic during rush hours from December 5.

He inspected the project after the BMA received complaints that the project delay was causing problems for motorists and local residents.

Pattanakarn Road has been suffering from traffic snarls and flooding after rains since the project started.

It was initially scheduled to be completed by April 10, 2018, and the deadline was extended to October 15, then extended again to February next year.

Aswin said he was told that the delay was caused by difficulties in relocating public utilities.

The delay was also attributed to the BMA changing the plan to provide more water storage for firefighting, if required, Aswin added.

Aswin said he also instructed the BMA's Drainage and Sewerage Department to prepare drain floodwaters from the road when there are heavy downpours.

The completion date was extended to October this year about a year ago.  Now there are only a few days left and all they have to show is a little bit of excavation filled with muddy water.  Until recently all the contractor did was to close off parts of the road with concrete blocks to provide parking spaces for his vehicles.

Winnie the Pooh wouldn't even believe those lies. Envelopes have changed hands and all is forgiven. Until the next delay occurs and then more money needs to be forthcoming.

Thailand all over!
