Gov stresses appointment of Pattaya City mayor benefits the nation

CHONBURI, 29th September 2018 (NNT) - The government insists that the appointment of the new Pattaya City mayor is for the benefit of the nation and is not related to the seizure of property belonging to the mayor’s father.

Mr Wissanu Krea-ngam, the Deputy Prime Minister, recently insisted that Mr Sonthaya Kunplome has no prohibited characteristics that would make him unfit to be the mayor of Pattaya City. The government considers the appointment to be of benefit to the nation.

As for concerns about Mr Sonthaya’s obligation to take responsibility for legal execution of the hundreds-of-millions of baht property seizure in the criminal case of the Mr Somchai Khunpluem, or “Kamnan Poh”, who is his father, regarding the sale of a plot of land in Khaomaikaew, the Prime Minister insisted that it won't be a problem. After the court’s ruling, the value of the property that was confiscated already exceeds the amount of the debt.

The Prime Minister stressed that the appointment of Mr Sonthaya is for the concrete benefit of the EEC, with Mr Sonthaya being a local resident with much experience in the region. There is certainly no exchange of personal benefit. He also asks that Thai society be open-minded and encourage the mayor in his work for the nation’s prosperity.

Of course it is not related, because that seizure will never happen.

True, being a local had its benefits than a stranger that does not know Pattaya- but aren’t their better choices out there in Pattaya. ( I know a few Thais that have a clean slate.)

Clean slates don't grease the wheels or the palms...….the principles have owned Chonburi for decades......there's no collusion or conflict of interest here. Trust them!

A politician, and a ex-Thaksin appointed one at that, is now going to be a benefit to the nation and not the first suggested threat to Thailand's security? My word, thats some turn around, a complete 180 degrees in fact.

He was appointed by the junta and not elected by the polity.

I'd say that 's a prohibited characteristic in a democratic constitutional monarchy.

Let's let the people decide that at a election shall we. I found a old Pinnochio doll in my mother's closet. She told me out with that his a liar

Family has held the position for decades , if elections were to be held they would win again that is if anyone would run against them to start with
