Govt hails Thailand’s improved ranking on healthcare efficiency index

BANGKOK, 29th September 2018 (NNT) – The Thai government says the country’s healthcare system has significantly improved, citing an annual Bloomberg analysis. 

According to Government Spokesperson Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd, Thailand this year moved up 14 places to No. 27 on the healthcare efficiency index, the biggest annual improvement, as per-capita spending declined 40% to only 219 US dollars or 7,086 baht, while life expectancy advanced to 75.1 years from 74.6. 

Medical tourism industry is among Thailand’s fastest-growing industries. 

He went on to say that the World Health Organization (WHO) had commended Thailand for setting a good example in providing universal healthcare coverage which is considered a sustainable healthcare system. 

The spokesperson claimed the government will continue to improve the public health sector and is determined to turn Thailand into an international health center. 

Highlighting the Thai health sector’s strengths, Lt Gen Sansern said health and medical services are affordable and accessible by all, and that Thailand has a large number of hospitals with high standards and offering quality services.
