Mexican vows to gatecrash Srisaket’s homecoming party

WBC Super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai is determined to keep his belt for the third successive time as he faces Mexican Iran Diaz in the One: Kingdom of Heroes this Saturday at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani.
 

His opponent, however, is talking a good fight, vowing he has come to Thailand to “crash this party”.

 

The 31-year-old Srisaket will defend his crown in front of a home fans for the first time as the highlight of the 14 matches on the bill in Nonthaburi this weekend.

 

He beat Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua twice in the US last year – to take and defend the title – and retained his belt earlier this year with a win over Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.

 

“After a gruelling training camp, one of my toughest yet, I am in tremendous shape and I’m ready to defend my title this Saturday night,” Srisaket said on Monday.

 

 “Performing in front of all my fans here and in front of all the Thai people, it is both an honour and a privilege for me. I will do everything in my power to keep the belt and defeat a worthy opponent in Iran Diaz. I know he’s ready too, and I am prepared for whatever he brings to the table,” added Srisaket, who holds a professional record of 46-4-1 with 41 knockouts.

 

 “Right now, the time for talk is over. It’s time to lace up the gloves and prove ourselves inside the ring,” added Srisaket, who sent Young Gil Bae of South Korea to the floor since round one in a warm-up fight at Workpoint Studio in July.

 

 The 28-year-old Diaz holds a professional record of 14-2-3, with 6 knockouts to his name. His most notable victories have come over dangerous former World Champions Hernan “Tyson” Marquez and Luis Concepcion.

 

“I have never trained harder for any fight. I know that he is a very powerful and aggressive puncher but I am confident in the strategy me and my team have come up with. 

 

“He’s a superhero in Thailand, but I’m going to crash this party and take the title here on his home soil.”

 

 One chairman Chatri Sityodtong meanwhile launched the One Super App for fans around the globe to access One’s live events and digital content library for free. 

 

One also announced a strategic partnership with AIS Play where fans can follow coverage of One events online.

Srisaket is an exceptional fighter...probably top 10 pound for pound in the world right now and could be one of Thailand’s greatest ever fighters by careers end....I am a huge boxing fan but having been to sporting events in Thailand before they are almost always a complete cluster@@@k in terms of tickets and gate arrangements...plus the traffic and everything else....would love to go but the hassle is simply too great from past experience
