I've been told recently by a friend he's been asked for this leaving from the US.  Sometimes however he has a RT ticket returning more than 30 days later.  I almost always fly on a one way ticket, and get my return later using FF miles, never staying 30 days. I've never been asked for proof, is this happening more frequently from US or UK?

The airline can ask for a return or onward ticket within 30 days of arrival and deny boarding your flight until you can show one.

You can but a low cost one way ticket to a nearby to meet the requirement if needed.

Not sure if it is happening more frequently than before.
