Please Sophon .... Show Us The Rugby

As Sophon had successfully broadcast the Rugby on Australia Network channel during the previous weekend, it was with some excitement that I tuned into Austrlia Network again this past weekend to see the three advertised matches.

Alas, not to be!

The signal is encrypted and requires that Sophon (and all other cable providers) insert a card to decode it. Someone at Sophon did try to insert a card because you could see the search for the signal on the screen, but maybe it was the wrong card, because the Rugby did not appear.

A telephone query call to Sophon in Pattaya offered the explanation that "we put the card in, but the cable is not working"

My email to Australia Network returned the following answer:

"Sadly for you, Thailand is the one territory where we have been having terrible trouble contacting cable providers to ensure that they have the right equipment to decrypt the Rugby.

All our cable operatos in Thailand are part of the Thai Cable Association and we have sent them all Smart Cards to decrypt the signal and written to each of them to explain what equipment is needed. We are also very reliant on the Thai Cable Association to contact them as few speak enough English.

Therefore this will be a local problem and we will be seeking the assistance of the Thai Cable Association to try to get it fixed asap.

Thank you for your patience

Best Regards

Is anybody here in Pattaya able to communicate this information to Sophon? It would be wonderful to watch the Rugby next weekend.

Waste of time complaining to Sophon. Youre only a custormer mate.

Its not realy the fault of Australia Network, its the dills at Sophon that cant operate their equipment properly.

No problem getting it on Banglamung Cable.

For 6 Nations if UBC are not covering it you will need to find a bar that has South African Sport Chanells. Geoff at Stars in your Eyes Bar at the bottom of Soi 7 usually has it on.

:o we have had no trouble watching the australian rugby, we are with jomtien cable, did take a little time to get them to do it correctly but we got it in the end, I think the other replies are talking about the english and european matches which are not on australian network. What I suggest you ring sophon and tell them to ring jomtien cable tv company and ask how they did it best of luck, we watch the super 14 on fridays and saturdays great

Thanks for the tip GreyFox2. It is the Super 14 competition that I'm referring to.

I will wait and see if they get it right this coming weekend and offer them your advice if they don't. There seems to be an element of Thai "see-uh nah" in their attitude, which may be difficult to overcome!

You mentioned: Jomtien Cable TV. Do you have a contact address for this provider? How many channels are offered and what the monthly costs?

Thanks a lot.

Hurrah, Sophon succeeded in broadcasting the Rugby from Australia on the weekend.

I exchanged the following emails with Australia Network to express my appreciation:

ME:

"The good news is that Sophon Cable did broadcast the Rugby this weekend! There was a few minutes delay at the start as they tried a few other cards, but they soon succeeded in getting the signal.

After 10 minutes of broadcast, someone removed the card and lost the signal, but this was rectified when they put the card back in again.

The remainder of the broadcast was uninterrupted.

I don't know whether this success was due to your representation to the Thai Cable Association, but thank you very much for your efforts in any case."

AUSTRALIA NETWORK:

"Good news! Yes, we received confirmation on Friday from the Thai Cable Association that they had spoken with Sophon. I am glad the service went out relatively uninterrrupted!

Best Regards

Nicola

Thankyou one and all for your help and suggestions.

I am now owner of a satellite dish - 3-4 metres in diameter.

Is Khun Kim still able to put me on to Astra or other S-channels? And can I pick up the Rugby from Channel of Champions that way?
