Migrants have been grouping for safety in numbers for a long time, but it's gotten wider coverage in recent years for obvious reasons.  Media licks their lips, they love a good shit storm, keep it going as long as they can.  ????

 

These folks wind up massing at the border areas (or at least they used to) waiting to cross, like the Running of the Bulls.  I drove out there a few times back in the 80s and 90s, among the hills of San Diego/Tijuana before it became a war zone.  They mass on the Baja side waiting for night, their simple strategy is bum rush and overwhelm US law enforcement.  Those who make it start fragmenting into smaller groups, which makes them harder to track and catch.    Helicopters and ground units wind up chasing them through neighborhood streets and peoples' houses and gardens from Imperial Beach, East across San Ysidro, up to National City and Chula Vista.   For the folks who live in those areas with illegals jumping their fences, running through their gardens, hiding under their cars and in their garages, loud helicopters flying over their houses for hours on end at night, spot lights shining, police and Border Patrol agents all over the place, sirens blaring - I'm sure they have a different perspective on this.

 

Due to improvements in the urban border areas, the illegal groups are herded further East into the mountains and desert out in Imperial Country.   I drove out of San Diego on I-8 East a few years ago, holy s**t, it was like a bloody war zone out there - Border Patrol, Sheriff's Deputies Highway Patrol all over the place.  I used to go 4x4'ing in my Jeep, there was nobody out there, so quiet it made your ears hurt.   This kind of scene plays out all along the US SW Border - illegal border crossing/Immigration, human trafficking, drug smuggling, rape, murder. 

 

Doesn't seem so invasive from way over here in Thailand though.

You need to see further than that...these few thousands are but a small sample of the millions waiting behind.

 

Opening the doors would be seen as an invitation...look at Europe and see what happen after you open the doors...there is no end to the flow...

Now let me demonstrate to you what rational discourse looks like.

In the Bloomberg article by Noah Smith, he show that there is actualy a net outflow of undocumented Mexican immigrants in the USA. And the reason for that is simple: demographics. As the fertility rate in Mexico declines, the economy is better able to absorb its young people. Right now at 2.18 Mexico is virtually at replacement level for its population. Which is why the negative numbers.

Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador's birth rates are also declining. They're still above replacement level but the decline is quite steep. It would be even steeper if the USA gave more funds to family planning. But as I'm sure you don't know, not only has funding declined under the Trump administration, but for the first time they have stopped given any funding to any family planning institute with any connection to abortion services at all. So by its policy, the Trump administration is actually prolonging what it claims to believe is a problem. Can you recognize the contradiction?
