A decomposed body has been found near the car of an 84-year-old man with Alzheimer's who has been missing since August.

Police said the process of disaster victim identification had yet to be performed to check whether the body was indeed that of Chalor Onphan.

Relatives lodged a report with police after Chalor disappeared with his car in August.

Late last month his car was found abandoned on a deserted road in a forest near Ban Khao Mai Hom village in Tambon Kaset Suwan, Borthong district about 7 kilometres from his house.

The family sought help from police to help search for him in the area and on Thursday, police searched the forest in a one-kilometre radius from the car and found the body just 60 metres from the car.

The family said Chalor liked to go driving alone but had always returned safe and sound until his disappearance.
