BANGKOK, 19th October 2018 (NNT) - The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) organized an activity to mark the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management (ADDM) and the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR).

After opening the activity on Thursday, the DDPM Director-General, Chayapol Thitisak, delivered a speech, saying disaster management requires cooperation from all sectors.

Mr. Chayapol said the Tham Luang rescue operation in Chiang Rai province can be used as a model for disaster management. He said other cases include the rescue of flood victims from the collapse of Xe Pian-Xe Nam Noy hydropower dam in Laos and the rescue of victims from a massive earthquake and tsunami on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

He has expressed his hope that the exchange of knowledge will create lessons and awareness of risk reduction for people in the future.

I think we've managed to produce enough disasters here already, don't think we could manage another one right now.
