Its the same everywhere, overpriced drinks and rude staff...lets face it, who wants to pay 3 quid or more for a bottle of thai beer to see girls playing on their phones...get a decent pint in the UK for much less than that.

was drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for 43 THB per 355 ml in the US.....seven times more here, but you get the phone zombies.

Really, Beirgarten operated for years with scores of working girls in there, not on the payroll.  What ever happened to that model?

Yes, but the ladies there are not on the payroll, that's the difference.

They didn't need to be..they were freelance. The biggest difference was 40-0 in the number of ladies in one bar vs. the other.  Apparently, the bar owners can't rip off the girls like they did for generations...only the customers.

You're missing the point, the Biergarten is not a girlie bar.

If you wanted to do it on the cheap, why didn't you go there?

It's pretty straight forward, if you go to places that have bargirls, you're

usually going to pay extra for your drinks.

It's no use trying to skin a fart, do everything on the cheap, and then complain

about the quality of your night.

You had heaps of options.

You could've gone to somewhere like Soi 8 for a few and then go and pick

up a freelancer, although I'm not too sure she'd like to jump on the bus back to

your place with you so you might have to fork out for a room.

Biergarten is cheap.

There's an even cheaper option.

Buy your booze from the 7-11 near your condo.

Walk back, put on some porn and have a lamb shank at home.

after seeing expats buy fake booze at MaeSai Duty Free for 14 years...711 is a pretty good choice...Jameson 200 ml is 329 THB...haven't seen it for less in LOS.  Did pay 950 for a liter at the much hated King Power...smooth as silk.  Dont know what people see in Jack Daniels..my brother says they even changed the recipe, for the worse.  More cute girls working at 711 nowadays than walking around Nana...sorry to see the mom and pops go, but they sold a lot of old stuff and likely weren't paying their daughters to work there.

Moontang, you seem to spend a lot of time in 7/11 what is with that do you like the noise when the door open's or what .

I almost switched to Family Mart, when they started wearing high heels..but that seemed to go away, besides, they charge 1 THB more for a large Heineken... 711 are the only girls that tell me sawadeeka, anymore, and dont have a phone in their hand.

Correct, but you wouldn't get the "zombie" for 500 baht in  the US.

500 is close to what I paid for a 12 pack...15.74 US..do the math.  And the Girl Scout Cookies were very good at the ranch.

I love these reminiscence threads.  They invariably demonstrate the various OPs never having moved on from their golden years and that Bangkok moved on without their permission.

If it did, it would still be more than double the average Thai worker's salary (without the mountain of debt), and more than the median household income as well.  1000 is too much, 5 million is not enough...quite a few still need to learn the mentality of these ladies.

Thing is, why would you even compare yourself to the average Thai worker or even the median household income?

Seems a touch underachieving to me.

Hey poontang,

lived on suk for awhile. Sounds like a typical night. Pounded the pavement daily and nightly for months. Fun is not a word id use. More like a haze of drinking, doing it and a sea of faces that held little meaning. Just a big cluster fuk. Was it ever really "fun". I think the first time I came to Thailand it was.

i hear you re the sausage fests. These are becoming more common. Typical scenario involves a bunch of sausages at the bar or a table and the girls chatting together or eating in their own group at the far side of the establishment only coming over to refresh drinks.

The pretentious Bangkok expats almost had me convinced they were all well to do, and regularly do steaks, drinks, escorts..ironic the threads about the end of the liar letters for the Brits and Americans got over 1000 replies.  Imagine the horror of having to put money in a Thai Government guaranteed account?  800,000?  Like a Bostonian backpacker once told me, "only people in the mob have that kind of cash."
