The hunt continued on Friday for a three-metre-long crocodile that was spotted on Thursday in Khlong Wa canal in the Muang Khor Hong Municipality area in Songkhla's Hat Yai district.

Songkhla Marine Fisheries Suppression and Prevention Centre officials narrowed down the area where the crocodile was spotted bathing on Friday morning. They used large nets to keep the reptile within the zone and clear the area for freshwater crocodile hunters' to attempt to capture it later.

The canal's water level rose due to heavy rain the previous night.

It was suspected that the crocodile was born in the Khlong U-Tapao area.

It is thought that it was born from a crocodile that was among some 30 to 40 crocodiles that escaped from a farm in Khlong Hoi Khong district during the 2011 major flood disaster, said Hat Yai Fisheries official Yukol Hempradit.
