In December I will need to renew my retirement extension. When I go to immigration do then do the extension on the same day or do I need to come back for the stamp in the passport?

At most immigration office your extension of stay would be approved and stamped in your passport while you wait for it to be done.

At a couple of offices they have you come back the next day to pickup your passport with the extension stamp in it.

In Jomtien it takes half a day. You get it back in the afternoon if you file in the morning, or the next day if you file in the afternoon. Works well as you dont need to wait at all when you come back, and I think it's mostly designed to stop people cluttering up the waiting room for hours on end.

Normally same day in Udon. As a matter of interest are you using income method or 800,000 deposit in a Thai bank for your application ?
