A Malaysian tourist has been arrested for allegedly stealing the wallet of a fellow traveller at a Hat Yai hotel.

The suspect, Mohammad Raqfi bin Sahab, was arrested just as he was about to cross the Sadao border checkpoint in Songkhla back to Malaysia on Sunday.

The arrest came a day after Mohammad Zamani bin Othman filed a complaint with the Hat Yai police station that his wallet disappeared when he was checking out of the Lee Garden Hotel in Hat Yai at 12.30pm on Saturday.

Zamani told police that he forgot his wallet on the counter and when he came back to get it, it had gone. The wallet contained 750 Malaysian ringgits (about Bt5,900) and Bt8,000 in cash.

Police checked the footage of the hotel's security camera and saw Raqfi taking the wallet and arrested him at the border checkpoint.

Well it takes so long to get through the Sadao border checkpoint the police had plenty of time to join the dots.

I am sure it was an innocent misunderstanding. He thought the guy was paying it forward leaving his wallet/cash for him.
