  • The deal that Trump is trying to undermine was working, as all international IAEA  inspections confirmed. The only country reneging on the agreement is the USA.   The only regime change I am

  • Tehran only cries bullying when you hold their feet to the fire. Hopefully the Iranian people will rise up and toss the Mad Mullahs out. Should have had sanctions on them 8 years ago, instead of givin

Then of course there's neighbors (and not so neighbors) whose ways and agenda for the Middle East have threatened Iran.

So how much of Iran's reaction is quid pro quo?

Of course there are neighbors too whose very existence as a country, indeed, even as people, are questioned by the Iranians.

When it really comes down to it, not much, I think. Rather the other way around. Currently, Iran's immediate neighbors are not, in reality, a serious threat. Other regional adversaries weren't all that hostile to begin with, more like things escalated the further Iran tried to extend scope of influence.

If one wished to claim it is legit for Iran to have regional interests not directly involving it's immediate neighbors, that's fine. But that goes against the previous "argument" discrediting US (not to mention other regional players') interests and stake.
