Paul Laycock1
I have a hip replacement made of the above. Does anyone know if this will set off airport X-ray devices. If yes could be fun.
KhunBENQ
The net says: very likely. It might be useful to have some doctor's certificate or other proof. Fortunately it's NOT x-rays that are used routinely but metal detectors. A mate had some big metal "nails" in the lower leg (from fractures) and told me that it is a problem. Good luck if you travel to the US. You will get "good attention" and even have a free x-ray Edited November 6, 2018 by KhunBENQ
colinneil
OP i have titanium rods in my back, the surgeon he did the operation when visiting me later, said you being a farang travelling by air you will set off the detectors at airports. If you travel make sure you have a doctors cert and copies of your x-rays.
Paul Laycock1
Thanks guys, X-ray shot not a problem but I’m buggered if I’m getting any further proof in the form of a letter. I’m only going to Bangkok from Ubon Ratchathani and back a couple of days later.
rodknock
i have had both knees replaced. have a card from the supplier. i fly back and to the us and have had no problems. when you go through customs they will check you with a hand wand. i have tried showing my card and no one is interested. i have a stop over in Inchon and it is the same thing. same thing when flying back, just check you with a wand if you set of the x-ray machine there are so many people flying with replacement parts, it is not an issue. Sheryl
Depends on how new the metal detector machine is, the newest ones will detect titanium implants, many older ones will not.

I have done about a dozen roundtrips from the states to Bkk..
