Laos VISA $35

ME Thai VISA for 5,000bht is the same price as an extension plus multi re-entry.

Who wants to sit n Thailand 365 days/year, a little trip abroad is good for you.

  • Went last month, no 1,000bht to pay. Did learn the first time I did this, not to take baggage, leave your wife and kid at home, they only cause complications and add to your expense.

That is indeed odd they want B1000 to leave. The wife and I have been thru there many times and never had to pay. Glad you got the multiple entry but there is no way to avoid that 90 day border run

  • Yes that's correct.   The visa is valid for 1 year ( it can be used any time in that year) buy you only get a 90 day permission to stay every time you enter the country..( single entry gets

Just to expand on my re-entry. Immigration would not allow me to enter on my new Visa. They wanted said I had to enter basted on the reentry stamp. I explained the IO Supervisor said I would have no problem entering on my new Visa.

The IO stamped my Passport and said I need to leave the country the day my Visa expires which is Dec 8.

I told him I will not leave the country in 3 weeks and insisted he use my new Visa to enter the country. He refused.

I said I am not moving until he does as it is my choice according to the his supervisor who insisted on me getting the re entry stamp.

At this point the line behind me was about 50 deep. The IO from the next booth came over to see what was going on and told the IO at my booth to call the Supervisor.

The supervisor told the IO to cancel my old Visa have me initial the cancelation and allow me entry on my new Visa.

So the thread title states...  Savannakhet Marriage Visa Turned Into A Horror Show

555, should have told the original IO you were leaving Thailand forever and never coming back, so no need for re-entry.

I hardly call crossing a bridge every 90 days 'a trip abroad'.

Let's be totally honest, few would choose to obtain the Non Imm O ME in Savannakhet, if they could meet the financial requirement for the alternative. Granted I know a couple who obtain the ME Non O because they like to travel, the rest have no choice and can't afford to travel.

Last time I did the Muk-Sawannakhet run there was no bridge and the boat bottomed on the river during dry season. Took us 3 hours to get pulled off.

Then you could have applied for an extension based on marriage at Immigration, if you had the financial proof.

You travelled from KK to Savannakhet, paid 2,000 for a Lao Visa and 5,000 for the Non Imm O ME Visa.

You cannot make 90 day reports, you have to leave and re-enter every 90 days.

Others travel to their local IO, pay 1,900 baht and don't have to leave the Country every few weeks.

It's obvious that you have no idea what goes on in KK when it comes to obtaining a Visa based on Marriage. It's just not as easy as you say.

You need to get your facts straight. It's B1500 not 2000 for a Lao Visa.

In addition, I could have chosen a Single Entry Visa and not have to leave the county. I chose the Multi Entry for specific reasons.

I can also get 60 day extensions and leave in 150 days rather than 90. Cost B1900. Less than going to Lao.

My method to Thai Immigration madness works for me.. it may not work foe you..

My marriage extension (not a Visa) is approved by KK.

Actually it is approved by Immigration Division 4 in KK that previously had its offices in Korat.

That's what I said, it's approved in Khon Kaen.

But the way you wrote it implied it was approved by the local office in Khon Kaen which it is not.

It was submitted at Roi Et, approved in KK.

They started the move of Regional headquarters in Mar/Apr 2017.

My extensions of 2017 and 2018 were both approved in KK.

The OP suggested KK was difficult to deal with.

Whether my application was submitted in Roi Et or at KK is immaterial, the extensions are approved by KK, so no difference in the requirements.

It's actually $35, which you can buy for 1,100bht at the room backing onto the Savannakhet bridge entry VISA office.

So there is an foreign exchange room/ office next to the Laos visa office at the Laos end of the bridge? Whould be so much easier to get USD there?

Yes, the currency exchange is directly behind and joined to the VISA application office.

I get my multi O marriage visa from Savannakhet and exit every 90 days, not a huge deal as I live less than two hours from Mukdahan. I sometimes enter Laos for just five minutes, by some beer, exit and am home for lunch. Pathetic pantomime with no practical purpose at all.

Are you saying the IO's from KK came to Roi Et to your home and interviewed you. I tend to doubt it.

I would think your paperwork was sent to KK for final approval and home visits were done by Roi Et IO's.

That's what some people don't understand. It's based on Nationality. US is $50. or B1500

Who told you it was $50. I have seen no other reports of it being $50 now. It has been the same for a very long time.

I handed them my passport and he said $50. US or B1500.

I paid him B1500 which is about $45. US. $35. would have been a good deal  if I had US currency which I did not. Unfortunately, I did not see any price list posted.

I think he said $50 since he did not have change for it. If using dollars you have to have the exact amount.

Near the Mukdahan bus station? - Or where exactly near the bridge?

I paid $35 last month (USA).  Bought USD exact-change for this purpose.  Not surprised some guy asked for more, though.

The fellow was probably angry about people paying USD, so he cannot pocket the mark-up on the lousy Baht-rate.
