Acronis back up.

I have told that it is not possible to back up a mirror image of Acronis, from an existing SSD drive to a new bigger GB SSD hard disk, without installing a new version of my Windows 7 operating system on it first.
Is this correct please?
And if so would someone be kind enough to detail the various steps.

Doesn't sound right to me...the whole point of an image backup is to be able fully restore/recover

the backed up image  to another device or crashed non bootable PC

boot from the acronis boot media rescue disc (cd or USB)  then  restore the backup image

bootable rescue disc

I have never used acronis  so could well be wrong ?

Try to clone the drives. One of the main purposes of cloning in this instant is to move to a larger drive.

Connect the new larger drive to your computer with either a case or a SATA-USB adapter, find the clone function in Acronis and follow the instructions. When cloning is complete, remove the old drive, replace with the new larger drive and you should be good to go.

Should be no reason to reinstall W7. That said, have you installed the specpacks on your version of 7? That may make a difference if you haven't.
