African man accused of romance scam

A 27-year-old man from Guinea-Bissau was arrested for allegedly forging documents to obtain a Thai visa and aiding a romance scam, said acting immigration police head Maj-Gen Surachate Hakpal.

 

The suspect, Alex Emanuel, entered Thailand by bus at Songkhla and avoided the authorities. 

 

He then posted his passport to a Thai, identified only as Joseph who claimed to have a friend at the Immigration Office, and paid Bt20,000 for a visa, said Surachate. 

 

The suspect reportedly helped a romance scam gang and was paid 5 per cent of the profits.

 

The scam would usually involve using bogus white male identities to persuade women to wire money to pay an import tariff and fee for the delivery of overseas “gifts".

Gosh.....that never happens.

Wouldn't it be better to stay in Africa and do the "business" from there? He couldn't show his face to the women anyway, unless he had a very clever disguise..

The “friend at the immigration office” should be the headline, BJ seems to have overlooked that one.

The story is really weird. They didn't show any evidence just Very Big joke statements.

How on earth did he avoid immigration when arrived by bus?

 Was that looked into or was good old Jo also Involved in facilitating the crossing ?

The immigration point at Sadao is chaotic. It could be easily circumvented should you be so inclined i.e. when the bus parks in the car park behind the immigration office you walk left instead of walking right.
