Police set up checkpoints on roads under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police Division 4 and made the arrests throughout the night in a weekly crackdown on road racing.

Pol Maj Gen Thirapong Wongratpitak, commander of Metrpolitan Police Division 4, told a press conference at 2am on Saturday that 57 of those arrested are under18.

He said five of the arrested also tested positive for drug use and four of the five are under 18.

He said police also checked 33 motorcycle repair shops and seized 36 exhaust pipes that are designed to emit loud noises.

Of the seized 120 motorcycles, 43 are big bikes modified to make noises louder than the legal limit of 96 dB.

The bikes are as bad as the 10 ton lorries with their dustbin sized exhausts. The bikes and lorries can be heard for at least 2 km before and after passing through our village. As usual the police do nothing about it and the locals are afraid to complain.

Where's the Joker?

ln my country it is not ilegal to fit a full system exhaust under 95db. Yes road racing is a problem with the kids.

Perhaps a track to suit them. But taking peoples bikes because they have a aftermarket exhaust is not in line with the law. it's merely corruption by the RTP. Who l may add remain unreformed to this day

Crush every one for scrap metal-next...

Electric motorbikes will never make it in Thailand because they aren't capable o making a lot of noise.

Probably a good thing because a lot of pedestrian's lives will probably be spared.

Please come to Cm and bring spike strips!!

Perhaps if the seized motorcycles were now hauled of to the nearest crushing plant and baled up others may understand the consequences.  A 200 baht fine and a wai and off you go is not a sufficient deterrent!

They are not modified. They come from the factory like that

besides good luck taking a harley away from a biker with a patch

Your country permits "system exhaust under 95db". RTP is seizing bikes and exhaust systems modified to exceed 96db. So, if in your country police seize bikes exceeding 95db will you attribute that to corruption? I'm finding it difficult to understand your post.

police do not care about reading exhaust levels. They are a cowboy unit. l been on bikes all my life and are involved with racing big bikes here.

They boom boom bullshit and can not stories. They do not know the law themselves the basic cop. If you don't understand go purchase a big bike and fit a Yoshimura system in BKK.

Oh and also it's a matter for the courts to decide the fait of the bike and the rider. Not the uneducated police who still remain a private operation. They need to be disbanded and rebuilt.

It's a start I guess, but 120 is just about the number of illegally modified bikes that scream past my place in BKK every day.

How about we see as much effort go into underage kids on motorbikes (no license, no helmet, no insurance) as to what they do for noisey bikes!
