My UK passport runs out this April, however my non O visa runs out in June. When i renew my passport will the few months i have left on my visa be void. As i intend to stay here a while if i can, is it best to go to the embassy here to renew my passport or should i risk sending it to my parents and have them send it back when i have the new one?

Thanks

How can you have a visa valid longer than your passport? Such a visa would not have been issued legally.

If you need a new passport you need to make application at your Embassy and then take old/new to immigration to transfer your current permitted to stay stamp. Once that is done you will be free to obtain a new visa.

You sais:  "How can you have a visa valid longer than your passport? Such a visa would not have been issued legally."

Don't know about Thailand but surely not a problem for U.S. B1/B2 visas.

My wife's first 10-year visa went through two (2) of her passports.  First passport finally expired after 10 years, when she still had a couple years to go in the U.S. visa.  Got a new Thai passport and just carried it along when travelling to the U.S.  U.S. Immigration had/has no problem with entry if the valid visa is in an expired passport, as long as the traveller has a current passport.

We are talking about Thai visas. Below is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement for visa issue on there website.

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months. The validity of 18 months is required for one year visa application.

I am in a similar complex situation.

I have a one year O visa in a British passport that expires in September 2007. The O visa expires in June 2007.

I have a new passport and the old cancelled passport. I actually don't want the visa transferred into my new passport, because I visit the UK next month and wish to apply for another brand new O visa in my new passport.

At present I have not attempted to transfer stamps; just hoping to sort it out at BKK airport next month.

Is this wise? Comments and advice appreciated.
