BANGKOK, 17 November 2018 (NNT) - The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) is closely monitoring forecast heavy rains in the lower part of the southern region.

ONWR Secretary-General Somkiat Prajamwong revealed the northern, northeastern, eastern and central regions may have some thunderstorms for the time being while the lower southern region will continue to have heavy rains.

The precipitation level over the past 24 hours has indicated heavy rains in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Phuket, and Phang Nga. A powerful low pressure system over the South China Sea will likely cause more heavy rains in the lower part of the southern region during 18-20 November 2018.

Water levels in many southern rivers remain barely below the banks. The ONWR is closely monitoring the water level in Kaeng Krachan reservoir in Petchaburi, as well as Pranburi reservoir in Prachuap Khiri Khan, both at 91% of their capacity, and is discharging water by 2.59 and 2.41 million cubic meters daily respectively.
