Junta-Linked Party Retracts Vow To Clinch Supermajority

Finance Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong speaks Sunday at a conference for the Palang Pracharat Party in Bangkok.

 

BANGKOK — A leader of a pro-junta political party said Tuesday he didn’t really mean it when he predicted winning 70 percent of the lower house in the next election.

 

Palang Pracharat executive Sontirat Sontijirawong, who also doubles as finance minister in the junta’s cabinet, told reporters he was only trying to “boost the morale” of his supporters when he set a goal of snatching 350 seats – a claim ridiculed as preposterous by opponents.

Party should be dissolved. Finance Minister of the current undemocratic government talking at a party function like this is wrong in so many ways. He should also be banned for 5 years.

Hard to retract being a dumb-ass. Tipping the public off to part of the junta's plans to ultimately manipulate the system to retain power is a big no-no!

It all depends on how many parties the government can dissolve before the election.

It all depends on how many parties the government can dissolve before the election.

The junta can dissolve the parties but if the electorates boycott the election and the quorum of seats don’t achieve 95%, the election is null and void. Each constituency also need a percentage to be legitimate. I can recall the percentage. Bottom line is that if the anti junta parties are dissolved, they will ask their supporters to boycott the election. Don’t think the junta want that kind of publicity and world attention.

I could even go out on a limb to suggest that The Junta Gang could easily dissolve and disregard everything - political parties, elections, dissent, etc........because they can. And they will.

 

And little fall out will come of it - domestically or internationally. 

Perhaps, the usual ruffled feathers here and there. 

 

Personally, I believe the much ballyhooed election won't come about. 

And things will remain the same....in moderate terms.

 

To the point - most are missing the big picture as to what the true problems/issues might be - and towards changes that need to be made.
