American missionary killed by tribe on remote Indian island

Featured Replies

Good. Well done Sentinelese people, we are with you.

These missionaries are the highest level of selfishness. Spreading their stupid believes to others, for the sake that they would be saved by their rather unpleasant, constant praising requiring, little god boy.

I don't blame the natives either...

  • Well we are always hearing...Jesus saves, well he didnt this time. Why do some smart <deleted> people think they have the right to try and instil their beliefs on others?

  • The tribe should send missionaries to America to show them the way back to the moral high ground.

I don't understand what's wrong with these people who think they must change other people's lives.

Let the natives live in peace.

I read of these self contained, indigenous tribes around the world, many in Brazil which are supposedly about to get wiped out as a result of the new right wing President-elect Jair Bolsonarno.

I'm sure many of these tribes could teach us a thing or two about living in peace and harmony.

Perhaps some of the tribe have visited "the outside world" and returned to tell of the horrors of modernized society.

As for the "American missionary", he knew that his trip was likely to not end well.

Their true aim is probably different from what they claim to be.

He paid the ultimate price for his stupidity.

Other than that there isn't a word that befits someone who ventures into such risk.

Reminds me of a pastor in Africa who prayed for months in front of a lion's cage in a local zoo. ( The lions were neglected for years with most of the funds provided for the upkeep going into private pockets.

Praying daily and finally decided to show himself to be a man of true spirit and god he thought that his believes would protect him from harm.

The guards only found a few remaining pieces of clothes when they came to clean the next morning.

Believe is one thing, stupidity another.

They'll be rushing into Thailand with the easing of the visa-on-arrival this month.

As a soon to be Chinese colony, PNG will be welcomed with open arms.

I sure hope you tell this to Thai people as well how the evil Indian buddhist monks came and instilled their beliefs on them and how deceived they are into buddhism as a result. Or are you afraid and only want to bash Christians? Please also go down to Southern Thailand as well while you are at it and tell them how they were scammed by Mohammad's followers.

Why don't you try doing some reading on the subject and come back to me with something more sensible.

I hope he didn't bring any diseases with him to the island. Otherwise that could be the end of them. What a selfish deluded d*ck.

I recall a story about a guy who jumped into a lion's enclosure in Kiev zoo, claiming 'if god exists, he will protect me'. He didn't survive and more than ever I believe in lions!

The preacher and the deacon were walking one day

along came a bear comin' 'round their way

the preacher told the deacon to say a prayer

deacon said "but our prayer won't kill the bear!"

These folks are far from being smart. They do are afraid of their imaginary friends with bad temper.

Funny how it's only the christians, who are trying to convert people to their religion. Vicious christian people.

Just pointing something out based on the context. I've met plenty of people over the years that have criticized Christians for so called indoctrinating hill tribe peoples here in Thailand yet those same people are silent whenever I have brought whether they also criticize the Buddhists that came from India in the same way that indoctrinated the same hill tribes and the rest of Thailand years before. We are on a public online forum, I don't need to get to know anyone in advance.

You are mentioning hill tribe people, have you any personal knowledge of this?

I.E. have you lived in their villages, seen how Christian missinaries work in these villages?

Well as many members on here know i have lived amongst these people

I dunno what you are saying..but anyone with even a  basic knowledge of history knows that Christian Evangelism touched of a major conflagration in India in 1857 resulting in the downfall of a dynasty and the the deaths of 2 million (at least) people.

As the touted religion is nothing more than an 'Imagined Reality" one is a tired of gunboat religion.

Call me again when the Buddhists,Animists  and Hindus invade America..for their own good.

Personally I have never witnessed any other group of people, than the damned christians, to spread their religion to me nor to anyone else.

Ugly, weak people who can't live in peace in this realm.

If this tribe does not know a thing or two about survival, then it is luck that has them on the right track for survival. And by survival, I mean cultural, social and economic survival as well as physical survival. Until and unless these can be guaranteed, which it is unlikely that the Indian authorities can, there is no option for survival except to repell all intruders.

In fairness to the Indian authorities, they come out well in this story - not only have they banned landing on the island, they are also prosecuting the boatmen who dropped off the would-be missionary. He was a criminal, having broken the laws of India - and these laws were in place specifically to protect the lives of the islanders.

Our would-be missionary, like so many missionaries before him, was probably an instrument of genocide. In past centuries, those missionaries did not know that they carried diseases that could wipe out populations. But this missionary should have and probably did. In killing him, the tribe was defending their lives and the lives of their families.

The cultural survival argument makes itself - how long would it be once there was freedom to enter the island before the tribe would lose its identity and history. Once that goes, the social would go too. If not, it would go once outside interests took over and economically enslaved them. I mean, what do you have to offer if you do not have the skills and education that the modern capitalist system requires? The best you can hope for is to be at the very bottom of the food chain, doing the most menial of jobs, if you can get a job. The tribe might get to rent out land or lease out concessions for oil or minerals but for a tribe without the understanding of what is involved, they would be easily duped. And that assumes that any survive the waves of disease that everyone else on the mainland is immune to.

A far better strategy for survival for this tribe is to kill all intruders.

Jesus saves, HE SHOOTS.....SCOOOOOOORES!!!!!! Skydaddy FTW!

So some Brit pokes his nose into Arabic affairs n gets Death penalty , some Yank stops an Arrow for not leaving simple folk alone, justice isn’t completely dead yet.????

Leave natives' alone, even if their culture is cannibalism.

Possibly not these guys, because rising sea levels may well engulf their islands. Aboriginal tribes and Indian tribes of the Amazon rain forests and the likes are the more likely survivors.

The highest point of these very hilly islands is over 2,400 ft. I doubt sea levels are going that high..
