Four killed as car crashes into rear of truck in Chon Buri

A driver and three passengers were killed when their car hit the rear of a truck in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district early on Saturday, police said.

 

The accident happened at 2.30am on the Sattahip-bound Sukhumvit road in Tambon Bang Lamung of Bang Lamung district.

 

Rescuers spent more than half an hour using iron cutters to remove the victims from the wreckage of the car.

 

The three passengers were identified as Thongphet Pekon, 53, Chamras Phothibat, 51 and Charassaeng Wichachai, 45. The driver did not carry any ID card and has yet to be identified.

The truck driver, Prayad Khurasi, 60, said he was changing from the left to the right lanes to make a U-turn when his truck's rear was hit.

Saddly these ''rear-enders'' are so common in this country,poor lighting , undue care and attention, drowsiness,following too close...this is the ''unforced error''style of collision...totally preventable.

Are you saying you know the truck used turn signal to the right before wanting to make his left u turn? 

Speed, speed and more speed. People here just don't seem give themselves a sporting chance of avoiding these accidents by driving within their own or the their vehicles capability. 

 

You see this so often, truck comes from a left side road, drives slow and does not accelerate much, because the driver has to go to the left lane to take the U-turn with or without using the signal.

Every driver on Thai road sees this happening and special when it's dark they are hard to see!

Even if you are driving 100 km/h it's hard to avoid a collision with those idiots that are just driving 20 or 30.

We don't know that. What we know, according to the article, the car hit the rear of the truck which suggests that the truck already was i the right line of the road, turn signals or not.

 

Besides, the truck wanted to do a right U-turn.

Another brainless driver. Happened at 2.30 AM so maybe even drunk. RIP.

Same old story.

Bloody U-turns, multiplied by driving in the night.

Maybe poor "cat eye size" lights at the truck.

The "idiots" have no other choice if they need to do a U-turn.

And the very most U-turns are announced by signage which is a very good reason to look forward and adapt speed (especially in the night) whether driving on the left or right. If on the right go left and don't speed.

 

No surviving witnesses except the truck driver.

I don't give a verdict.

One or both could be responsible.

 

Avoid night rides on highways whenever possible!

Raise awareness to the max if you see a U-turn sign!

That's the only way a truck of this size could manage the U-turn. My guess is that the car was speeding in the right line and didn't observe the turning truck, until it was too late.

Sir, i may be wrong, and please correct me if i am, but the main article did not mention any survivors, yet your video shows someone being rescued, even waving as they took them away. I also think this is a different vehicle to the one in the main picture, the front is fairly intact, where the other vehicle is hardly recognizable.

Well spotted.

       There is nothing wrong with U-turns, we all use them from time to time, Its simply MINDLESS drivers who make turns with no concern for others on the road, and others who simply pay no attention to whats ahead of them.

       We are always hearing of break failures, but the truth is, most times its too late to brake.

       Sad for the innocents involved, R.I.P.

Only excessive speed causes that sort of carnage, other contributing suspects may include alcohol, inattention and poor lighting. Sad Loss of Life.

They are the first responders that have to remove the bloody & mangled bodies from the wreckage, they are sending a message, 'This is real and this is you if you drink drive & speed'  a picture is worth a 1000 words ... I think they would prefer to drink tea back at the station.

once had one of these furkers with a trailer  pull out on me with no warning and no reason, 3  am empty dual carriageway road, it wasnt nice!
