TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan voters were set to back a referendum that defines marriage as between a man and a woman, dealing a blow to the self-ruled island's reputation for liberalism in Asia amid a heated debate over marriage equality.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Saturday the United Kingdom would "always stand by Gibraltar" after Spain got enough assurances over the peninsula to unblock the European Union's Brexit deal with London.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Insurgent shells wounded dozens of people in Syria's Aleppo, causing choking, state media said on Saturday, and a monitor said government shelling killed nine people in rebel-held Idlib.

Mali says it confirms death of veteran jihadist leader Koufa

 

BAMAKO (Reuters) - Mali's army said on Saturday it had confirmed the death of Amadou Koufa, one of the most prominent jihadist leaders in the country, in a raid by French forces on Thursday night.
