I have just obtained my WP as Manager of the hotel business that I own with my Thai wife. This business is a limited partnership company with myself holding 49% and her 51%. I already held a non-imm multi-entry B visa, and the WP is not 'tied' to my B visa.

This B visa expires next month and I want to extend it for 12 months, (rather than getting another B visa because I'm trying to get into the system for eventually applying for PR).

My intention was to apply for the extension based on support of my Thai wife. However, my wife was recently taken rather ill and is unable to either attend at the immigration office or sign relevant papers for extension based on support of her.

This being the case, is it possible to obtain an extension based on my employment in our partnership? Would this still require her to attend? In any case, I think our business needs to be able to show 1 year of auditted accounts etc, (which is clearly impossible for a new business).

If an extension is not possible due to the above, then I'm in a sticky situation!! I could as last resort, return to the UK and try to get another non-imm B visa, (my 5th...).

Any suggestions how I might be able to extend my B visa without 'input' or attendance by my wife? I'm 48 years old and we also have a son here in LoS. (Can one extend based on following a university course in LoS?)

Thanks

You need the audit for 2006 showing a mininum of one million Baht and a higher turnover in 2006 then your salary for 2006. This is for the extension of stay based on business. Your Md ( in your case, wife) needs to sign her name around 130 times but does not need to be there.

As for the extension of stay based on marriage. She needs to be at the Immigration office when you apply. Two options...

Go To Hanoi, show your work permit and company docs and odds are high you will get a one year multi entry visa. Worse case, you would get a 90 day visa

Second option...

Get a extension of 60 days to visit your Thai son. No need to leave Thailand then. Maybe in 60 days, your wife will feel better.

But also, just for my own knowledge, on what grounds can a B visa be extended? (As mentioned, I'm trying to extend my B visa so that I can start to acquire the neccessary number of years of extension that are required for a PR application).

Extension based on work is one, but not applicable in my case since I don't have the year of accounts etc.

Extension based on support of Thai wife would normally be my option, but not possible in my current circumstances

So what other options are available to extend my B visa for 1 year?

Thanks
