Hi All,

A friend (yes a friend) is starting to think he may need a Private investigator to check up on his girl friend. I am of the opinion if he thinks he needs a PI, he already knows the answer, but he has a lot of emotion and some Bath invested in this girl. He goes to Thailand about every 2 months to meet with her for a week to ten days.

Have any of you used a PI to check out a girlfriend? What was your experience with the PI. Was it expensive?

I can never understand why anyone would even consider employing a Farang to "investigate" his putative girlfriend in Thailand - at least in the sense of Stickmans' (et al) amateur "gumshoe" approach of going to the girls village / last bar / last apartment or whatever and asking questions or, worse, "staking it out".

A Farang trying to get information, in Thailand, in these situations is frankly ridiculous - some great clumping Bukseeda trying to blend in in the Mukdahan Talad Sod asking all and sundry "does Sai have a husband?" (probably in Prasa Klang) is not going to yield much useful feedback.

This is the age of technology.

As an example - no reasonably affluent Thai Girl does not have a Mobile 'phone - and professional PI's (mainly Thai - a few Farang) can obtain 'phone records, even SMS transcripts (1 - 2 - Call and other prepaid systems included, believe it or not).

But of course even these Investigations only tell you the status of your - ummm - enquiry, as at the date of the report.

Best D.I.Y. solution - on-going and always up to date .........

If you have already "invested" in a girlfriend but want to keep an eye on her while you are away, before you leave next time buy her a surprise gift ......... a Computer!!

She'll be soooo grateful (she won't have to go to the local Internet Cafe to keep in touch with you ) - but first install Software which can record her keystrokes, copy all her outgoing or incoming Emails etc., and Email the records to your Email Address.

Some great Software out there - reliable and a once off investment ... well, per girlfriend / computer!!

Hi DeDanan, I employed a PI to check up on my (potential long-term) Thai GF. This was not because I did not trust them, but had more to do with me wanting a long-term relationship, and not wanting to waste time with girls who were just looking for fun/money.

The first girl I met seemed quite decent, not a BG. I employed a PI to check her out when I nipped back to the Uk. He approached her and suggested sex in his hotel room. she said yes . . .

The next girl I met was a BG who promised me that she would stop working in the bar, but would still go to the bar to meet her mates Yea sure!! I paid her a monthly 'salary' (not so much), and engaged this farang PI to chat her up in the bar. He saw her on many ocasions in the bar and each time tried to chat her up and get her into bed, offering a very high rate!! Much to my amazement, she turned him down on every occasion!! He watched her for some time and never saw her go with any guy. I have to say that her honesty humbled me.

So, I've had good experiences with PIs, but you need to use experienced and well-established companies. They are not that cheap, but only you know how much you value the sort of information they can uncover.

I don't know about private investigators, but at an earlier stage of suspicion, there is nothing wrong with asking a friend who lives here to have a drink in the bar she used to work in, or walk by a few locations when convenient.

Of course this would provide only indications to put sleepless, lonesome hearts at rest, not 'proof' to base one's actions on.

Having said that, I myself stopped reporting the antics of newly aquired 'girlfriends' to my mates from abroad, got fed up with the aggro I got as a thank-you.

Love makes blind, and when one reaches the stage of thinking about P.I.s, well... som nam na.

If we are talking about a bar girlfriend then all I can say is, save yourself the expense of a PI and accept that she will be working while you are away, she will regard this in much the same way as you or I regard overtime!

She has an income from you, and while you are away the oportunity to earn a bit on the side.

I've seen the Bar Girlfriends of guys who are working in Thailand going out and working the day time shift while their regular customer is at work.

I've seen ex Bar Girlfriends/Wives coming back to Thailand from overseas a couple of weeks, perhaps a month before their boyfriends/husbands and spending most of that time in their old bar.

Not once, dozens of times.

I knew a guy who would specialise on getting off with bargirls who said they were not working because they had a boyfriend back home.. it was like a red flag to a bull to him and he claimed he never missed his target.

If she is working in a bar, or telling you that she left the bar during your absense then save yourself some money and ditch her, get a new one when you come to Thailand again and don't take on the debt.

Surely a gal cant work the bar and not go for some shortime business at some stage during the month or the mamasan would kick them out ?

They have to make a minimum number of punters during the month .

But i am afraid its a familiar story about bargirls they have a short attention span and once the boyfriend is away their mates will be bugging them about not making and shortime cash etc ...Plus they get plenty of jokers fooling around promising this and that every week .

99.9% are highly unreliable i am afraid , even the good ones are suspect .

best to forget Thailand completely and go to Brazil or Cuba .

Thats the last thing you want to do , she brings round her mates who want to check their hotmail ,she sees what they are up to and gets ideas in her head about raising some more cash , as they have more benefactors than she has , and then it snowballs from there ..

all the girls put ideas in each others heads , one bad apple makes them all rotten .

you cant trust any of them .

i know 2 gals in Bangkok who are living with expats , when i am coming to town i text them and when i arrive they call round to the hotel for a good afternoons rogering !

I usually take them some clothes and they are happy as larry with the setup.

We usually take the labels out of the clothes so that their boyfriend doesnt get suspicious .

they think nothing of shagging on the quiet .

Who knows i could be rogering the gal of some expat who reads this forum .

I think the Farang PIs usually employ Thais to do a job where it is necessary.

This isn't such an unusual service. Lots of people in the US employ PIs to investigate fiancees or suspected adulterers. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

sending money over to support bar girls (i am assuming that they are bar girls or sex industry girls), get a life.

my wifes family own an apartment block just off sukhumvit,36 small bed-sit type apartments with a little convenience store attached. most of the apartments are rented by bar/massage girls,sometimes 3 to an apartment.the girls are vivacious,fun and mostly beautiful.they lead an envious lifestyle.

they can afford to.

the girls come down to the shop,literally on a daily basis to get letters and e-mails translated from english into thai,and then to formulate suitable replies to the poor suckers who have made the fatal mistake of "falling in love" with these girls.

these girls,or a very high percentage of the ones that we write letters for,have three,four,five or more guys on the go at one time,the money comes rolling in on a monthly basis,supposedly to support children,family,pay the rental on the apartment,build a house etc.

in all cases the guy thinks he is the only one.

in all cases the girl makes him think he is the only one.

in 90% of cases the money is used to pay off gambling debts,buy gold,pay the bills on the three or four mobile phones that each girl has.etc.etc.etc.and buy vast amounts of alcohol from the shop.

very little money goes to support the family back home.

i sometimes get to meet you guys as and when you make your yearly/twice yearly pilgrimage to bangkok.some of you seem quite rational and intelligent,we watch football together and pop out for a drink together sometimes.

but i find it hard to keep quiet sometimes.knowing what i know, if i am asked for an opinion about the girl in question i will tell you. but you dont believe me because its not what you want to hear, and after you have left the money orders still keep coming in.

on the days that the guy leaves, the airport trip ceremony occurs takes place.

a sad day indeed,the heavy suitcases,the lightened wallet,the sad farang face,the warm clothing draped over the cases,ready for the arrival home, the "weeping" girlfriend left behind to suffer the pangs of loneliness whilst the hard working boyfriend flies back to the snowy lands of europe to toil away for another 6 months or so.

before the guy has settled into his economy class seat the girl will be back in town,dressed up and ready to party.

a new boyfriend will appear in the shop next morning,bleary eyed and bow legged buying his ciggies and an iced coffee for his squeeze.and on it goes.

these girls are brilliant at what they do,absolutely fckucking brilliant.

there may be one or two genuine ones out there who fall in love and form relationships based on love,but for 90% of you,

i'm afraid you are making a big mistake in thinking that love enters the equation.

unless you are in the country on a permanent basis,forget it.

a lot of these girls are earning 30k baht upwards from abroad alone,thats before what they get from guys for short time and long time. these girls are money mad and as busy as rabbits
