Turns out it was right out in the middle of nowhere and apart from a few broken down fences and dry ground there wasn't much around, but there was a wooden bungalow so the guy thought he would stay there and see if he could fix it up. Couple of days later standing on his balcony, he spied a cloud of dust in the distance and it got nearer and nearer until eventually a Toyota Ute screeched to a halt next to his bungalow, and out climbed a typical outback Aussie. "G'day mate, how ya goin", the man said. The British guy replied, "I'm okay but this place will take a lot of work". The Aussie said, "well it's a bit lonely out here so why don't you come over to my place tomorrow for a BBQ, it's about 50 km north and 30 km west and it's the only one out there, so you can't miss it". He carried on, "tell you what, I'll throw a few steaks on the barbie, get a few beers in, and will have a bit of singing, a bit of dancing and a bit of rooting". "Oh, that sounds rather splendid", said the Brit, "what should I wear". Worked for Barclays UK at Radbroke Hall in the 80's/90's (about 3,500 staff mainly IT people) & we had our own pub on site + Tennis Courts, Rugby/Football/Cricket Pitches, Gym, Squash Courts, Bowling/Putting Greens - We nicknamed it Butlins cos it was more like a holiday camp than an office. Lunch was either a pub lunch or lunch in the canteen followed by a couple of pints.... Lost count of the number of times somebody had a couple too many & fell asleep in the toilets for the afternoon. The site was in the middle of nowhere but fortunately they put coaches on to the major towns so if you did have a couple too many (or stopped for a couple after work) you could leave the car & get home / back the next morning.
