American on Dirt Bike Kills Thai Woman Crossing Road in Chiang Mai
I got told a few years ago that when there is an accident involving a Thai and a foreigner, it's always the foreigner's fault as if he/she hadn't been here the tha accident wouldn't have happened ! A friend of mine was on a motor bike taxi which was involved in an accident, and the motor bike taxi rider/driver wanted my friend to pay for the damage as if he hadn't hire him, the accident wouldn't have happened!!! Needless to say, my friend didn't pay, and walked away! But these days, the chances of the rider being armed and aggressive, or having a bunch of Thai "mates" to back him up seem quiye high! -

Yes, Virginia, Donald J. Trump WILL be the first convicted felon to become U.S. president
Merchan has signaled in his written opinion that President Trump will face neither jail time nor penalties at his sentencing next week, but instead grant President Trump a conditional discharge whereby a case is closed without jail time, fine or probation. This will finally allow Trump to appeal the charges, which given all the corruption during Trump's show trial, will ultimately remove the conviction entirely. Hopefully. once the appeals court has ruled on the matter, it will lead to the censure and removal from the bench of Merchan. -

Thailand Aims to Woo Elite Tourists Amidst Regional Rivalry
It is not a luxury experience to stay at a hotel in a city where you cannot breathe. It is not luxury when you cannot access potable water. It is not luxury when beaches are marred by pollution. Thailand serves the middle and lower end tourism market. Until the country sets standards and enforces them, it will never get beyond that. There is also a functional monopoly in the hospitality sector both in its operation and in the supply of goods and services. Until true competition is allowed, not much will improve. -

Biden Honors Key Figures from Jan. 6 Committee with Presidential Citizens Medal
As for Liz Cheney, in this case, the Trump partisans have a point. At least in identifying her as unworthy of any honor. She was part of the clique who promoted falsehoods in the runup to the Iraq War. At the time she was Under Secretary of State for the Mideast. She deserves to be reviled. Although not for most of the alleged misdeeds laid at her door by rightwingers. -

Biden Honors Key Figures from Jan. 6 Committee with Presidential Citizens Medal
Wait until Jan. 10th when convicted criminal and rapist Trump receives his sentencing - it may be immediate encarceration, ie., nine days so Trump can attend his own POTUS Inauguration. -

Good fortune: PM Paetongtarn’s assets exceed 13 billion baht
Well, it's big for sure. But then again, at least in Thailand, they hold their political leaders to account and make them declare, publicly, their personal assets. Some don't. Remember the watches, lent from a dead friend? What comes of any of it (taxes, etc.), if anything is another matter. But think about this - the leader of the most powerful, wealthiest nation on earth doesn't have to release any of that information, because he has (snif) 'Liberty, Freedom and Justice' on his side.
