Mazda CX3 "Key" Replacement.

Featured Replies

My car has a keyless start system, and for door opening.

For a few days the door hasn't been opening, and I've had to press the open on the key. Usually just press a button on the door.

Tonight the engine wouldn't start when pressing the start button. It started eventually when I held down the button on the key and pressed the button for a long time.

Could it be the key battery needs changing?

I'm not even sure if these keys have batteries,  I can't see it and nothing on the manual. Just found out that the key has a recall key in it, which is useful for opening the door but I don't think there's a manual ignition.

Do these keys have batteries that need changed? If so, does it have to be the mazda centre?

What does your user handbook say?

Could be the battery, but how old is it? I've never had any issue with batteries 4-5 years old.

Were it me I would google the model and year and key issue...

Nothing in the handbook.

It's only  18 months old.

Got a new main battery 3 months ago.

I should have checked YouTube first, seems they do have a battery.

Should be under warrenty, they may need to "re-program" it.

I doubt it, the main battery wasn't.

The main battery is considered a consumable, I doubt the remote is. I’ve never had to replace a battery in one.

I think it’s worth a try...

Though it sounds like the key battery they usually last for many years. But I would change it to see if it solves the prob, if it doesn't I would go back to the dealer to let them sort it in case there is a bigger issue involved.

Once you crack it open, the dealer will likely have nothing to do with it.

Change the key battery yourself, follow the Youtube directions. Mine didn't last 2 years.

Also, Mazda has an inductive coil around the Engine Start button just for this dead battery situation - push the button using the key fob, it'll get enough power to signal and start.
