Euthanasia

If I get too sick. I am ready. Just give me my lethal injection and dispose of my body any way that you deem necessary. That idea offends my girlfriend's Buddhist beliefs, but those are not sustaining me in any way. Jack Kevorkian was my hero.

That's the Brexit approach.  No turning back.  No "I'm feeling better now".  You signed up for euthanasia, and that's what you'll get, no matter what you think now.  Better to do it now, while you're still in favour and of sound mind and body, rather than waiting a bit until senility might cause you to change your mind.

Go for it!

Nice comfortable "drop-in" centre, a beverage of your choice (laced with knockout) once unconcious given the needle to finish.

Next !

Easy, painless, effective.

I believe that's pretty much what Dignitas offers, isn't it?

Of course, that's under Swiss law with the many necessary checks and balances being carried out.

There's a movement in UK to make "assisted dying" legal but for obvious good reasons, it's fraught with concerns.

I would love to have the choice to "end it all" if I was terminally ill and in pain, but as someone else said, once you get that sick, you may well be incapable of actually taking the required action, therefore someone would have to assist you. Under present laws, in most countries, that would be murder.

To a certain extent, 'assisted dying' or ' end of life protocol' is implemented in the UK, by not giving treatment.

However, there was The Liverpool Pathway....

The Dr. Harold Shipman Pathway was successful for many years.

Yes, although I think he took his erm...responsibilities a bit too far!! ????

He was dedicated, I'll give him that. ????

As I said in a previous post, my grandfather was offed by his GP way back in 1960. My Grandfather was completely unaware of it. Far more common practice than people realise.

I think if people want to kill themselves they should do it themselves. Involving the state and the heirs introduces too many avenues of corruption.

Everyone wants to die young until they get old.

It would be nice if "do it yourself" was easier, then-- like an easy way to do it as politely as possible that doesn't involve too much mess, or trauma for whoever finds you/requiring someone else's unwitting participation (which rules out guns, knives, vehicle accidents, possibly poison depending on what it is, drowning, jumping in front of a train/truck, hanging, jumping off something, self-immolation, asphyxiation, etc.).  That leaves, pretty much, pills (probably a narcotic or barbiturate), which means either having to fool a doctor and stockpile, or figure out how to get them illegally *and* without getting arrested before you can actually use them (and then after death you will be labeled a drug addict for your family and friends to believe and deal with forevermore).  And this method isn't foolproof as you have to make sure you take enough to actually kill you.  Or, something like carbon monoxide.  Then there's the matter of making sure you're found before it gets gross.  And the problem of how to do it if you have to make it look accidental for reasons of insurance or sparing feelings of family/friends, though that then probably rules out any non-messy or non-traumatic method.

What I said was, "safe and medically appropriate way" and expanded on that to add, " Peacefully, non-violently, with some degree of decorum."

That kind of rules out:
--throwing yourself off a tall building
--shooting yourself
--hanging yourself
--overdosing yourself in a way that may or may not be successful.

I had a family member who died after a long bout with multiple sclerosis that left that person as pretty much an invalid, in considerable pain, mentally out of it, and totally unable to care for themselves or even turn over in bed for the last 20 years of their life. That person couldn't have done or even attempted any of the above, even if they wanted to, because basically they couldn't move at all on their own.

Let me assure you, there's absolutely nothing funny about any aspect of any person being left basically as a vegetable with virtually no quality of life at all. People who find themselves in that kind of sad situation ought to have the choice to end their life, and get help doing so if needed, in some decent way.

I did say virtually anyone yes?

You conveniently deleted that part of my post.
