Selection of senators starts today

 

 

Selection of senators, who will play a key role in shaping post-election Thai political future, began today with candidates in all 876 districts across the country selecting among themselves in their respective districts for preliminary lists of candidates to be moved up to provincial level for the second round of selection.

 

There has been a lukewarm response to the senator selection process which saw only 7,210 candidates representing 10 occupational groups nation-wide.

 

In Bangkok, Sathorn and Pom Prab districts do not have a single candidate whereas in Prawet, Bang Plad and Bung Gum districts, candidates have to select among themselves to move up to the provincial level. In districts where the number of candidates is below the target, they automatically move up to the second stage of selection.

Let's hope the huge senate hall attracts more would-be senators than their election attracts TV posts . . . Come on, you guys . . . this is very serious business and may well affect how we're all feeling not so far down the line. 'Good gals in, bad guys out', I say, having now become convinced that the Thai woman generally leaves her male counterpart standing.

On the first day of Christmas the junta give to Thais, 250 Prayut look alikes. 

On the second day of Christmas, the senators give to Thais, premier Prayut on a fake law. 

These are the power brokers, what is the entrance fee?

It will go something like this.. do you swear to be loyal to the junta and vote the way they want to vote.. yes or no..... if yes.. ok accepted.. next... if no.. sorry your not acceptable. 

Why bother with an election and the people's process?

The PM and his cronies are going to get blisters pulling the levers to manipulate the selections. This is almost funny if it wasn't so sad.
