PM steps in to help two abandoned boys in Amnat Charoen

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed the Social Development and Human Security Ministry to send officials to help two brothers abandoned by their mother at a rented house in Amnat Charoen.

Government Spokesman Putthipong Punnakan on Monday said General Prayut had learned of the plight of the two children via social media and reports, and had instructed the ministry to help the 10-year-old boy and his one-year-old brother as a matter of urgency.

Sudarat Phakdee, 15, a neighbour, said the boys’ mother had asked her to watch over the boys during the evening of December 10 at their rented room on Soi Klong Chon Prathan in Tambon Moong, in Amnat Charoen’s Mueang district.

The mother said she would be away only briefly and took a taxi motorcycle, but did not return.

Sudarat said that as a teenager, she had no money to buy milk for the younger brother, and she therefore informed Wanphen Sintem, chairwoman of the Ban Lad Kham community, who in turn posted the story on a Facebook wall to seek help from social-media users in locating the mother.

Putthipong said the Social Development and Human Security Ministry had been instructed to try to locate the mother and provide all living necessities for the two boys pending her return.

Moreover, after the prime minister learned that the elder brother did not go to school, officials were also told to help him get him into schooling.

The PM also told the ministry to check all provinces to establish whether there were other instances of children abandoned by their parents, so that they too could receive help from the state, the spokesman added.

And the PM got involved, seems he should be kicking arse of those who's job it is to attend to this, not asking for them to do their job.

It's all the children and society at large...

Of course it is.????

I commend his action. There is no excuse for dumping a child....NONE.

Every cival servant and law enforcement officers credo '' let no good deed go unnoticed''..

He deserves praise for this action and that dog he saved.

Micro manager supreme; there is nothing that escapes his attention when it comes to an opportunity for political media opportunism.

A sickening show of faux humanitarianism from a junta that cares little for human rights or humanity in general.

If it gains a few votes then he and his cronies mates will be delighted.

Normally I would consider this an optic for votes but I believe the result is a foregone conclusion.

I thought the monks would do this.

You are surely not serious, monks only help themselves not others.

Valid point, but the story said "Sudarat said that as a teenager, she had no money to buy milk for the younger brother, and she therefore informed Wanphen Sintem, chairwoman of the Ban Lad Kham community,..."

As others have noted, this should have been dealt with at the local level, not find its way onto the PM's desk. Prayut seems to be constantly telling Thai civil servants to their damned jobs.

SFA mainly.

Based on the stories I have read about "some" perverted monks, I would have to question how safe these boys would be in the "hands" of monks.

(please note the emphasis on "some" as I am not categorizing all monks as being the same)

Santa came early this year and he carries a big sack full of pre-election presents.

Btw is "Rudolph" BJ OK? Or why did he miss this opportunity to get in the news today?

There is no indication that the mother abandoned them. She just didn't return......

Assuming she voluntarily dumped the children.  What if she is being held against her will someplace or, worse yet, lying dead in a forest someplace?
