The leaves are spikey

 

Grows looking very much like eggplant / aubergine hence it being given the nickname "cartoon aubergine".

 

I think as the leaves are spikey, its most likely poisonous, so not going to taste it!

 

Can anyone please identify it in English or Thai, thanks.

Hm.  I would've guessed a type of squash or gourd.
