I have been in a category 1 (100 km/h winds) cyclone in Darwin. The wind sounded like jet planes taking off constantly. Was living in a caravan at the time so doubt if you would know the difference between 100 & 90 km/h wind & rain.

I hope Samui does not lose its electricity for too long as there a friends there.

I most certainly do, I've been at sea in yachts and fishing boats in winds from gale force 8 to 11 force 8 = 62-74km/h force 11 = 103-117km/h on several occasions & on land right up to force 12 hurricane strength greater than 118km/h. If you spend many winters on the coast of the UK you would have too.....

looks like max wind speed at land fall. 50 knots with 65 knot gusts.  One knot equals 1.852 KPH. So 50 knots per hour X 1.852 equals 92.6 KPH or 57.53 MPH.

From Windy.com looks like it will make land in Surathani area a bit more south than the original forecast

Mate, you are a braver man than me. I have spent a little bit of time in boats, but nothing like you describe, and surfed 15 ft waves, but would not do what you have done. I thought your original post might have been flippant so my apologies.

Hi NCC1701A

Thanks for the update on the storm. I would like to ask if you would share the link for the storm tracker you are using please?

I have search the Joint Typhoon Warning Center but not seeing the same tracking map.

Thanks for sharing mate.

There is an app called Rainviewer that is available from both Apple Store and Google Play store for phones. It has a good radar view of approaching weather.

Thanks. Please keep on posting the screenshots of the predicted path, like you did before. That's the handiest way for most of us to follow what is happening.

Looks pretty calm outside, for the time being. Has a pretty good night lighted view.

And seems to play better from here when I just post the link only:
